well, you find a slope with a reasonable gradient, climb down.

anyway, today was terrible, it was raining, thought i'd go ahead, drowned my phone, and caught nothing

squidding has been hard in the whole port phillip bay lately. due to the huge amounts of freshwater dumped into the bay because of the rainfall we've had.

another empty trip. makes me sad. pinkies aren't biting as of yet either.

Hi Gents..

First time poster...

Is there a peak season? If so have I missed the boat for this year?

And the general consensus is last light or first light as the best time?

Thanks for your response in advance.

Went to Mt Martha on Monday. We caught 6 squid (in the evening), 2 garfish, 2 small leatherjackets and 1 tommy rough. Was fun.

Especially the tommy rough were an unexpected addition. I hooked about 4 but only landed one. They fight hard for a rather small fish.

Were you baiting or luring for the tommies? I've heard they take small spoons but i've never had the opportunity to try.

And how was the squid bite rate? I was wondering if it's time to dust off the fishing gear and go wet a line, I need a de stress session from my uni work load.

The tommy rough took small pippie baits under a float.

The squid only appeared just on dark and we only had maybe 10 minutes to catch them before they went off the bite.

I'm still bit of a novice. Just off the rocks yeah ? I found a private beach and there were some rocks just up from that. I climbed around the corner and most of the guys there said that is what they were fishing for squid. From what I've been reading the jig doesn't really matter to much. Price comes down to quality etc (I could be wrong though)

Hi everyone, I tried Mt Martha rocks about 1 week ago. No squid caught! Plenty of toad fish!
