Mount Martha - VIC
#1
Hi everyone,

There were lots of small squid around Mt Martha on saturday.

Caught a fair few with a small green jig under a float.

I was hoping for some garfish but none were about.

Regards,

Glen :i :i

I went to mt martha on sunday afternoon and stayed till dark.

I got lots of very small squid during the day on a small green jig under a float.

In the evening i got 6 medium sized squid on a pink size 2 yamashita. I was pretty happy with this result.

I got 3 of these in the pitch dark. I was using a latern to provide some light but it is not very bright. One of those rechargeable laterns u get from camping stores.

Hi Glen,

How do you get to the Mt Martha location?

Do you go fish off the boat or rocks?

I saw the photo's in the gallery.

Thanks,

Joe.

Hi all,

I went to Mt Martha on Monday (Public Holiday). It was pretty quiet in the arvo but managed to get 9 squid between us. Mostly just on dark. The squid were medium size. No tiny squid this time!

Hi all,

We managed 16 squid between the two of us. One of our best trips ever. A couple of squid were decent..maybe 0.5 kilo. Others were on the small/medium side.

Used green jigs during the day and pink in the evening.

All the best,

Went to Mt Martha on Sunday. Very few squid about. Only got 3 small ones between us.

It was great a week ago! Oh well, that is squid fishing for you.

I did some snorkelling and did not see any squid at all. I was hoping to get a photo of one underwater.

Hi everyone,

went to mt martha on saturday arvo from about 3pm onwards. Between the 3 of us we got about 12 calamary. 2 were quite good size (perhaps 400 gram). others were average (about 200 gram i guess).

only one small leatherjacket on bait plus lots of tiny rock whiting which kept stealing baits.

have a good one!

Hi Carlos,

Anywhere between Bradford Road and Hearn Rd (Melways map 150) is worth a shot. But it can be quite dangerous getting down to the water in many places since there is steep rocks covered by loose sand which is quite slippery.

Best bet is to look for a spot with the most cars and the access is probably easiest in these areas.

Good luck!

Hi all,

I tried Mt Martha on Monday (so a few days ago now). We only got 2 squid. Did some bait fishing but "no bites" which was very unusual! I spotted some fish hanging around the berley bag and I hooked one but it bit me off so I am not sure what it was....perhaps a leatherjacket. It was a good size whatever it was.

The pervious few days it had been windy and cold. I guess that might affect the fishing somehow. Water was still pretty clear, despite the strong winds/rain etc.

Better luck next time perhaps! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' />

Have a good week,

Hi all,

Went to Mt Martha on sunday. We got 10 squid between the two of us. So we were pretty happy. Caught some on jigs under floats and some casting and retrieving jigs (orange and pink). Slightly bigger than average size too but no monsters.

There was practically no fish around! I got one very small leatherjacket.

Hi all,

Went to Mt Martha on saturday but did not see a squid or anything else (except a few toadies!). It was a beautiful calm morning but no action. Ended up going to Frankston pier and got some garfish. Also lost a salmon that took a metal lure.

Hi Adam,

I am getting a bit lazy with checking tides. I think it was low tide.

What fish did you catch?

well, i caught a 1.5kg aussie salmon(great fight on light gear) alot of leather jackets up to about a kg, my mate caught a nice little garfish(with his hands l0l) there were big schools of garfish and salmon close to the rocks & jumping out the water..but as the tide went out, so did the fish..so i think its better to fish the rising tide..
