Hopefully i get something, been craving for salt and pepper squid for some time now.

dropped by today, landed 4 small ones, i left just as the action was heating up because it was getting dark,

missed countless squid today due to my inexperience, and also setting the hook with a hard flick doesn't work, i just get a broken off tentacle.

Heading down in about an hour to catch the first light.

Hope things will be good, saturday morning wasn't half bad, getting 3 in less than an hour, then everything went quiet so i packed up and left.

I'll be fishing around hearn road, so if anybody wants to join me, please feel free!

I tried mt martha last night. Was not very good! Only got one small squid.

Nice to see some leatherjackets are back though i let them go as I am sick of eating them. Their guts stink so bad!!!

Tried Mt Martha yesterday. No squid around. Caught a couple of garfish and some leatherjackets.

Nice to be out but pretty quiet <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Hi everyone,

I went for a snorkel yesterday and I got 5 abalone. They were all mostly pretty small (10cm) but a couple of larger ones (maybe 12 or 13 cm).

We are cooking them up at the moment. My fiance is chinese and her parents are visiting so I thought they might like to try this delicacy. Though personally I have never liked eating them so it will be interesting to see if they can make a nice dish out them.

Afterwards, we watched the fisherman and they did not catch anything worth getting. One guy seemed to keep hooking stingrays or something like that and had 20 minute battles that never resulted in anything getting landed.

The other guys were catching small fish. I think they could have been parrot fish or something like that.

It was quite windy. Not an ideal day.

Cheers, Glen

Mt Martha on Monday:

We got 3 squid just on dark.

And we also caught quite a few small garfish.

It was jam packed with holiday makers!!! Could barely find a rock to stand on!

I've seen the rays come in really close, and just waddle around in the shallows before heading out, are they feeding?

I've always had thoughts of bringing a surf rod and casting out a whole squid on a spreader rig... just never could be bothered.

Chances are you would never land them. Those stingrays can be pretty huge. I think they are feeding when they come in close like that. I think sometimes people throw away left over fishing bait and the rays come and mop it up!!

I fished mt martha on the weekend. It was not very good. No squid around for us and not many garfish either. Though we did see one guy lose a squid in the mid afternoon.

hey havent been on here for a while hope everyone is catching there share of squid.

I have been getting into spearfishing lately and thought we would give mount martha a go and we had a awesome day!

shot a few lether jacket and a few garfish (which are very tricky to shoot!) and we even shot a squid (which was all of 15cm long) but i saw ALOT of garfish they were everywere the trick to spearing them is to sneak up on a few in a pack and get them on one side of a rock and you on the other side of the rock and creep out and shoot in the school. pretty tasty too i had never eaten one before.

all the squid i saw were very small but they were there so some bigger ones may have been around

went out saturday 19th, got a line in about 6:30am, kinda as the sun was just rising, stayed an hour, caught one, released one, and lost one due to not having a net (was a biggie, soon as he left the water the hooks pulled out) so off to the shop to buy a net!

Easiest is to just follow the crowds. Pick the most crowded car park and you will have the easiest access.

Hey guys, went squidding at Mt Martha yesterday evening.

The quarry spot was overloaded so drove to the bus stop. Caught 4 squid just before dark and a few garfish. Was a lovely day to be out there!
