2018 Rhode Island Squid Report
#81
Quote:Went out last night on the Frances. Got a little less than 1/2 a bucket. Probably the median catch. High hook was a half bucket. Some did catch much less. Not spectacular but acceptable.

Was the bite spread out or did they hit at a particular time?  My boat is almost ready, just waiting on getting my water pump rebuilt.

Thanks. For those have access to a boat, I believe that the headboard are drifting Nebraska Shoals. That was my plan today to try there but work schedule changed.

Good Luck!

Yeah, that's where the frances fleet hangs out.  Years ago they would anchor near the number 2 buoy and just stay there all night.  Nowadays they will drift and you can see them west of the number 2 to the breakwall, from 60 feet all the way to the surfline.

Just move around and see if you can find a school on your sounder.  If not drift over the structure and wait for them to show up.  Note that sometimes lights out works better than massive floodlights.

Haven't been squid fishing since season started.  Going out today under Newport bridge. SSW should be good.

Hope to go to GIB tonight for my only trip of the year. Will be wearing a camo bandanna on my head. If you see me, say "hi"!

Never made to squid fishing ground last night. At the dock, found out a navigation light went out. Spent almost an hour to fix. Then thick fog rolled in. Too scared to run to the bridge. Put boat back on trailer and went home.

Too bad Tongvo. I finally caught up with Martin and Ruta last night. They said it had been slow most of the day but as soon as I got there it started to pick up. I got there around 7 PM and fished till around 9:30 PM. Got most about an hour before dark. Once dark, it shut off, for me anyway. I ended up with about 20 of mixed sizes. Ruta got a double next to me and then so did I; my first!

Hello alll. New to the forum but not to fishing. Was there last night from about 8pm - 1am. What a difference from last friday! Now i know fishing can be fishing. But what factors are most important? I thought last week was low tide this week is high tide. More water more squid. No wind last night, does that matter? Watching a school of big tubes circling the light not interested in the jigs? Why?!? Are they not aggressively feeding due to stripers? So are they leary on how they feed? I'll be back tonight. Red Sox hat and long hair. Can't miss me. Thanks in advance.

I noticed Frances Fleet didn't post last nights squid trip on their blog. Conditions were clear and calm, anyone go?

were on the sevenbs last night.  caught about 15 from 7-12.  stopped squiding after 11 because it got cold and windy.  wasnt a very good night but it was ok.  sizes were mostly good.  frances fleet had a full boat going out last night.

Diana, it's a Frances Fleet squid charter. They typically go out 3-5 times per week for a few weeks, as long as squid are around in numbers.
