Fished Flinders pier from 5:00AM till about 9:00AM yesterday for only three squid. I had two silver whiting baits out and working one jig. Lost a small one on the jig and gave away a large arrow squid. Kept two Calamari-one small (hood about 25cm) and one large (hood about 45cm)
Saw two others caught but all in all very quiet. I believe it's not the best time at the moment for Calamari at Flinders? Is Spring the peak time here as it is in Queenscliff?
Fished Flinders yesterday for 7 squid. 1 x 2.5-3kg, 3 x 1.5kg & 3 x 500gm.
Larger squid on whiting and salmon under floats, smaller one's jigged near pilons.
Most of the action was around mid day, just after low tide.
All went quiet around 4pm. Crowds came out, high tide, sun went down...... still no action.
Started getting into a few line tangles with others, so I left, happy with my bag.
Squid rings for my son Jack tonight, and 6 vac sealed squid ready to target SA kingfish. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' />

PS. Tryed Brighton pier a few times of late, and the squid are scarce.
Usually a few about May/June. Gar's are quiet too.
Regular Customer Dave âthe surf kingâ OâBrien fished Flinders Pier during the week. Using silver whiting under a float he caught 6 calamari to 3 kilos. Run in tide was more productive.
?? How did that one get through? <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> I didnt approve that one.
I think the Tuesday I get off will be better spent there than the weekend now.
Famous? Nah. You may see my mug on occasion in the mag's with a salmon or big groper. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='q:' />
Fished Flinders Pier Tuesday 5am till 11am for 1 arrow squid and 2 calla's.
Very slow, with seemingly good squidding weather.
Local down there said he cleaned up on the weekend, even with big crowds fishing.
Said a few nice size come up during long weekend.
Oh well, I was a day late. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='q:' />
Off to far west SA next week.
Some good squid at Fowlers bay jetty. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
For the land based angler, Flinders pier has fished well with some big squid up around the 2kg mark. Best baits have been silver whiting or pilchards fished under a float. While your down there it always pays to have a bigger rod out because each year a few good Gummies and even the odd Bronze Whaler are caught for those that try.
Customer Glenn Monohans fished from the Pier one night during the week. Fishing with pilchards under a float he managed 9 Calamari to 2kgâs. All fish came during the incoming tide.

We tried up and down the pier but the squid we got was caught about half way up. We were happy with one but wasnt a great result for the time spent. We Ended up leaving pretty early to cause we were tired . around about what time were you there? we left at 4 or so if i recall correctly.
