I believe the police and community are getting testy...every year more and more people crowd GI...and spawnle is right they will close it if need be. And another thing, it drives me NUTS when out of the blue someone shoulders in between you and friend starting to catch squid without the courtesy of even saying "excuse me" or "please make room", things got worst when his 1st cast tangled my line. I was so pissed! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Although, Karma caught up to him, we were pulling up 5 squid for every one he did.....lol.....

P.S. Did anyone else see the guy with the 25 foot fishing pole on the bridge? It was hilarious!!![/color] <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol' />

Hey all, anyone a good "legal" place to park that's close enough to haul a small gennie, cooler, rod, etc., from?

If my frickin boat were in the water, I'd be somewhere between new london and newport right now. But I am a pedestrian at the moment. I may go over tomorrow night - I have to be up early for a fluke trip saturday anyway.

I figure I'll put about a kw of light out. Buddy up if ya want.
I went down to GI day time and got full bucket, squid season just starting <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup2.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Around what time did you go, and what time is better, morning or night? And also, was that on the bridge off Goat Island?

And does anyone know where I can get the right hooks for squid fishing?
Not so great tonight. There were at least a billion people there, I have never seen so many. Really kind of sucked. There was just no elbow room. I saw no great runs of squid tonight. I left at about 11PM. Spawle did well with his generator and lights at the wall...but it was so crowded I could not get near him. I think I will have to go somewhere else by boat from now on during peak times.

I came there 9am until noon on the bridge GI, I used Yo-Zuri squid jigs.
It is good to post!!

I plan on going Tuesday night by boat to the bridge area. The only place I have found in the area to park is at Fort Adams. The launch really has improved and the is a loading dock now. In years prior this was not there and it has greatly improved the launch.

It is good to hear the squid are finally in and I can't wait to bring them aboard.

For those of you want to use boat, I will let secret out. There is a free public ramp to use in Portsmouth, big parking lot, it's about 10 minutes from Newport bridge, it's close to NUWC base and also close to route 114. Here is a snapshot of it, sorry I know how to get there but don't know exactly address. If you msg me i can snap some more pictures to your email.

Well Folks last night was fun to a point. I got down there around 9pm and started hitting them within 90 seconds got about 60 or so about 1/3 of a bucket. That was enough for me for the night, got tonight’s dinner and some bait for fishing later in the year. So here was the point where it became not fun. I brought my little sister down her first time trying this she had a blast until it apparently became acceptable for people to fish over her by tossing the jigs right out in front of her and forcing her into a little corner where she felt uncomfortable and it wasn’t fun anymore. Everyone who goes down here needs to realize that there are plenty of squid out there and there isn’t any reason for encroaching on someone else when one comes out of the water. Thankfully for this person she made us leave before they went for a swim. There were way too many people down there and the fear being consummated on this board will come to fruition and GI will be shut down if attitudes don’t change. I have seen way to many inconsiderate sloppy people down there for my liking. It is so frustrating because for every nice person you meet down there (and yes we met one last night), there are 10 jerks right behind them.

In the 18 years I have been fishing GI I have always gone down there with the attitude that fishing is a privilege meant to be enjoyed by all. Not an opportunity to rape the seas and get greedy over how many you got. Or you need more buckets full. So when it is a busy night and you look to you left or right and see someone there, realize that they just might be out there to have fun and enjoy themselves instead of trying to keep all the squid from you.
Just got off the phone with a friend in Newport. He said there are 2-3 hundred people on the GI at noontime.
I feel privledged to be able to go seaward by boat and can get away from those on the bridge. I cannot however escape the litter. There are boats of people that have no respect for the ocean at all. Everything they use goes into the water.

That makes me feel like the Indian in the old commericals.

I look forward to the one or two times I go for squid as they signify the start of the fishing seaon.
