I am a new member this year. I live in New Haven Ct and visit RI many times a year. It sounds like the squid are here and there numbers are increasing every day. I am spending this week end at misqumicut and will definitley visit the bridge Saturday. I am almost tempted to take the 1 1/2 hour ride up Wednesday night to do some jigging.

Hello All,
I have bee squidfishing on GI for over a decade, Squids come at diff. time of the year. Last year it came in mid april this year i came right at the end of april. When it's schooling it doesn't matter what time or jig you are using. I found the best time to fish is right after the sunset. I hate to stand on the brigde, I have no dissapoint on the side of the part, Look at attach picture. Best jig i found is belong to Yuri pink. Any questions you can msg private i will try to answer my best. Happy jiggggging

SnailDarter...I am too taking my boat this Sat. I'm leaving Boston, MA at 3AM. Please give some pointer like where to launch the boat, then where to park the trailer the where to anchor the boat and do I need some sort of light?
I am sorry for asking lots of question. Because this is my first time squid fishing and I'm not a local. Driving in the dark is hard to find places. I have GPS but not exactly helpful if I don't have a co-ordiantes. Thanks in advance. Pooh

It is the Oakland Beach ramp near Warwick Neck. It is close to where I fished last year next to the Quonsset Peir/Airport. Three of us filled 3 5-gal pails in three hours there. It was in 15 feet of water next to the pier. Check it out on the web. If you plan to launch out of Newport you'll have to use Fort Adams. It is a terrible ramp bbut managable and there is parking. It is only a half mile run with the boat to the goat Island Bridge. My friend Jeff made homemade lights that go on 12V battery and fit in our rod holders on the boat. I also use a underwater squid light made by Brinkman that attaches to a 12 volt battery. Good luck. I'll look into it...I will try Fort Adams but 1/2 boat drive is scary to me...still a newbie with boat too. Do you know Wellington Ave boat ramp and Polar street boat ramp? According to some in here, these are public boat ramps but not too sure about parking for the trailer. Looking forward for your reply. Pooh
Here's a nic tip for all of you who plan on going to Goat Island Bridge.....
I've had some of my best squiding outtings not even touching foot on the bridge....Try squiding from the sea wall, that neighbors the bridge. I like to set up shop and kick back, yard chair, hang a coleman lantern over the side, coleman stove cooking up some grub...ect......When the squid are in, trust me, you don't have to fight with the bridge crowd to have a great outting.... Also, don't waste your money on cheep jigs......YoZuri is by far the best working jigs for this area.....I personaly think you only need two colors also,,,,,Pink seems to work all the time for me, but greens work good at times also.. Hope to see you out there this spring.... Mike K.....Where in CT are you coming from?...I'm up in New Britain..
Hey mike. Next time you head up, let me know. I"m in west hartford. I plan to hit the bridge next weekend. As was stated by you and others, yozuri jigs are the only way to go and yes, pink and green are the slayers. We had some impressive results every time we used them last year.
I have since learned that this is not uncommon, but it is the biggest I have ever seen:
http://picasaweb.google.com/MyBeeswax/MeTh...293865502057042
not to take away from your catch but thats' by no means a giant squid. In the peak of squid fishing, i'd say that's about an average catch.
