anyone been getting any? i've been down to the harbour 3 times now and nothing......... do the tides make a lot of difference?

tides , winds , dolphins and pro netters will spook them and you will not see any for days some times but they allways come back when things settle down.

it's coming up to the moon period so night will be worth a look as we did very well on the last moon cycle.

I was told by a friend last night of a squid that was seen down there that was close to a metre long.....love to tangle with that sucker on 6 pound line...better pack a cut lunch and thermos of coffee if I hook that sod..lol.

we'll have to arange a m&g down there on a weekend as it seems everybody works or uni thru the week.

like the way they bagged a giant squid over there...it attacked another hooked squid and paid the price..mind you the hooked squid was about 1.4mtr long and the one that grabbed it was enormous.

Everyone was having a sleep in and the tide looked ok so I thought I'll give it two hours squiding down at the harbour.

Conditions were perfect when I got there but a north easterly breeze came in , the water dirtied up and lots of weed washed in.

I got one small squid on on a medium sized blue razorback and lost one jig and all to a squid I estimate to be around 4 kilos !

( alright , I wasn't paying attention and let the jig sink to the bottom. I didn't actually see it , it may have been a rock but you have to admit the previous line makes much better reading.)

Spent a fair bit of time changing newly purchased jigs and filing the lead weight to get the angle and sink rate just right.

Oh well I've had the fun so now it's time for the pain.

Where's that mower ?

hey Doc

I thought about it this morning but that was as far as I got , got plenty of packing to do for the cruise this week and work as well.

you will still get a few down there at this time of year and it makes good practice for when they come in thick around march/april.

will give you a buzz when I get back and give them a bash and you some tips.

took a stroll down at the harbour this morning at first light and managed to get 3 nice squid for my troubles , water is a little mirky now so other places would be worth a look in.

the water seems to be a bit dirty everywhere

should clean up towards the end of next week with the bigger tides and lighter winds

might go for a look wed/thur

went back down last night and scored another 4 big suckers and found some new places to fish on calmer nights as it was a bit sloppy last night.
