Newport Ri 2012 Squid Season
I went last night for an hour (7 to 8) I didn't see anyone catching. I might stop by again tonight.
This is a report from on the water

Squid are In... at Montauk and Newport... a trickle on the Vineyard and Cape

These squid were jigged last night someplace around Newport, RI. I took the photo at Sam's bait in tackle in Middletown. Squid are starting to show up--we'll have to wait and see how many show up and how long they stick around.

I think It's going to break open this weekend. New moon Saturday.
Hi folks just joined the group. What does a squid school look like on your machines ? Are they blue clouds ?
Fished last night (8p.m. to 3a.m.) Near GI. Started very slow and almost gave up. After mid-night got into some nice ones... about 30, plus a few sea herring. Sqid are definately popping now, all over the bay.
Hello fellow squishermen,

I am ready to embark on the greatest squid harvest of the century. I plan on using multiple yo zuri's to maximize my squid intake. I will be at goat island on saturday night and my friend will have a fri-alator so we will be frying up some squid. good luck everyone ill post some pic's once i grab a few.
Rhode Island sound forecast is 2-3 feet through sat morning, then it goes fugly at 4-6 on sat (figures).

Might have to wander out to the beaches and see if anyone is home.

I am hoping you are sharing the fri-alater if so I may be tempted to bring some fresh tautog to throw in!
Anyone going out tonight??
I went out last night got bout 15 squids good size was out for 3 hrs I seen ppl wit half buckets but who knows how long they was out for
Not much going on yet under the bridge. Was out from 8 - 1. Caught 6 good size squid . Maybe another week or two
Same here.

Fished from 9 - 12:30 for 7 squiddies.

I
i was out the 15 and it was dead lots of herring though
a few - very slow - still early - several mackerel
fished 7:30 pm to 11:30 near GI ..very slow for squid .. good sized sea herring showing up and taking small tinsel fish jigs
I can't wait to get back out there and squish. I just hope that they're there when I am.
GI full of garbage already! It was a mess this morning. People need to pick up their trash before the City of N shuts down the parking and squid fishing on the bridge, especially with the sailing races coming up soon. The city provides trash cans and even picks up on Sunday. Why don't people use them?

Anyway - squid - very very slow am today.
Damn what a way to start off my first post of the season <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' />. So how did the winter treat everyone?

I haven't yet made a trip for squid yet this year. I've been fishing for bass since 1st week of April, kinda hard to pull myself away from it. But I'm going to need some fluke bait this summer.

I'll try to make a trip Friday around JT or PTJ, I'll post any reports on my outing.
What is the current water temperature at GI?
