Does anyone know how to make or where to buy an LED submersible light to hang under a boat? I want LED so i do not drain the boat battery like a flood light would. Thanks!

Went last Tuesday to a few places. Route 77. Fort Adams. Fort Getty. Absolutely nothing. Baby squids were there though, so it may be a sign

That is a nice site but seems like it might be a bit cumbersome to navigate after checking it out for just a minute or two. A bit off topic but hopefully no one will mind - I like to go directly to the NOAA bouy data for the locale being fished. For Newport: http://www.ndbc.noaa...p?station=nwpr1 For Hyannis: http://www.ndbc.noaa...p?station=44020 And if one really wanted to get a good feel for whats on the horizon for weather these NOAA dopplers cannot be beat. After using them for a few years now I am able to predict changing rain/no rain conditions for my locale very accurately - sometimes in extreamly variable conditions I am able to predict change within 15 -30 minute time horizons. If one has a smartphone this can come in real handy out on the water - especially here in New England.
I have tried the LED light thing.. I have heard good results with the submersible green light sticks, but... Why fix what has worked for so many years.. get a genny and couple 500 watt lights.. It always works, you do not have to worry about your boat battery.. you just need to bring fuel. I have built a couple high powered led green lights.. they work good in illuminating the water and what not, but the squid react differently than the warm glow of a halogen bulb.. I find they the halogens fish better, but that is my experience.. still in testing mod with the green leds..

Anyone have good success with the martinetti 2" pink unweighted jigs? I have been using yozuris and noticed last season quite a few people using these

It emits a lot of lumens in the water and definitely attracts squid. If you're worried about your battery then you're better off using a seperate battery dedicated to the squid light. Just remember to charge it before you go on the water.
If there are not as many squid this year as there are in the past then some of the blame can go towards the rising *seal population. There's definitely a concentration of seals on the skirts of Newport Harbor. Gould Island, Rose Island and the cut throat point just south near the reefs. The squids are probably at the reefs right now being met by seals there. I believe these migratory seals have caught on and will remain on our waters a little longer to feed on the squids. If this is the case then I wouldn't expect catching the usual buckets at the causeway in the future. With rising gas prices I suggest people should charter with the Frances Fleet rather than feeding the Newport Bridge tolls.
In 1969, there were a bounty for seals in the Northeast. This practically wiped out the population up to Canada. Seals since have been a federally protected species in the US. The question is, can fishermen and seals coexist? We'll find out...

I don't know if seels and fisherman can coexist, but I do know that sharks eat seals and I am gonna get me a HUGE shark this year from the sounds of it!!
FYI, I was at Lucky's Bait in Warren and they should be getting their squid order in shortly. They have a great wall going with submersible lights, bait squid jigs, Coleman jigs etc. I can't wait!! - ATG
