#21
I doubt they're in abundance yet... It's very possible people are posting archived photos to get members arroused.

I was in wood hole pier on Thursday night, and the dragged boat unloaded his ship with squid. Long tube and a lot of squids, he said catch from Nantucket sound. The boat name Richard, you guy may see some evidence near the end of the pier. Did not see anything in the water, except 4 ducks.

There was a good bite and then it died off with all the E wind. I was out there yesterday, yes, it was nasty in the AM, but it flattened out nicely and there was a good afternoon bite. It should pick up a bit this week with warmer nights predicted. And that was very far from all the "squid fleet", in previous years we've had over 100 boats out there jigging.

At wood hole last night from 7-10 nothing at all did't even see a bait fish. The dragger boats arrive from Nantucket sound with very few squid.

That's because there aren't a lot of squid, yet. Works for me though, I'm getting a lot of $ for them as a result. I'm surprised there are aren't a few in Woods yet? There should be, waters certainly warm enough and has been for some time now.... Might just be a year when there aren't a lot of squid around.

Decent bite in the afternoon yesterday. Overall it's slow. Probably going to be a very poor year for them everywhere. Got a message from a friend in RI that it's slow there too, almost none. I heard that the offshore boats did very well this winter. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />

I have talked to some of my friends who used go to squid fishing years ago and they all told me they were catching a lot of squids in the Spring, but since I got interested in squid fishing a few years ago, the squids are coming in but not that abundant. Did I mis-read the report? or I just have wrong information? It seems the population of the squids is decreasing as years go by.

And has it ever happened the squids skipping to coming in the Spring? It seems this year they are not going to come.

They had maybe the best season in memory last year in places like edgartown. Landings haven't been down on the comm side, so IU think frustration is just getting the better of people. Squid, like fish, have ways of moving around. They will go where the food sources and environment suits them, and that changes from year to year and even decade to decade.

Be patient. Or take up golf. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

Bluefish have arrived in Nantucket Sound, which means the squid run is pretty much over. I could be wrong, hope for the rest of you I am? I've given up. The squid jigs are put away till next year. As far as Edgartown, there's nothing there. Chatham, same thing. A few have been caught in Woods Hole, literally. I fishing from 2 PM until 2:30 AM, Thurday- Friday...40 #'s. I used to do as much as 1000#'s in 1 day.....

The offshore winter fleet did very well this winter. That might be part of why the squid aren't here, but I think that the Sound is dying. The grass is worse every year and there aren't scallops on the S side almost anywhere.....Lots' of beautiful homes with green lawns along the shores though.....
