Well, seems the squid have moved on here.

The last 3 trips out in the boat, no squid, not one (passed 3 weeks).

There has also been a decline in fish taken....

Well after 3 trips with no Squid... they turn up again.

Heaps and heaps of them... But this time i had Burley out and they were coming up the burley trail, no where else, but up the trail.

One after the other after the other and so on. Interestingly, they were not at all interested in jigs on a weighted dropper, but happy with single jigs un weighted.

Plus they didn't seem interested in the Pink jigs, but a kind of Orange/pink jig.

So there you go <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Hey guys, my first post on here. Just thought I would let you know that I have been fishing the Lorne pier quite a lot lately. Getting my bag limit more often than not. Some really good size calamari amongst them also. All caught on artificails. Was there on Monday night just before Australia Day my god I have never seen so many people there it was literally shoulder to shoulder. Thankfully most were using poles so I was able to cast and retrieve relatively inaffected. Wasn't too confident of catching to many but to my surprise I bagged out in under an hour. 4 in 4 casts at one stage. The pole brigade had failed to land anything the whole time I was there.

I stood up near the Pub and looked down the Pier that afternoon Spanito... You are not wrong, would of been 150 people on the pier.

I couldn't stop laughing... Reminds me why i rarely if ever fish there.

Great to see you could still get some numbers, even considering the amount of people gear that most of been in the water

Hey Guys!

Im doing a fishing report for my boyfriend, so here goes =)

we were down at lorne from the 10th-23rd and went fishing a few times. On the weekend of pier to the pub the lorne pier was packed! But we still managed to catch a few squid which im quite suprised about!

With all the ink marks and not going home empty handed i recommend to go down as soon as you can. Ive been squid fishing many other places but lorne pier is def my fav spot. Oh and mr seal decided to show up on one of the nights scaring away all the squids.

With all the squid ive caught, ive never stopped using my 3.5 yo-zuri pink jig

and as for 100% squid he was catching them on 2.5 yo-zuri orange and multi colour jigs.

have fun =)

Great report.

And at 17 degrees at 3am... would be a good time to go have a fish off the pier right now <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Well, they say calm conditions for squid, well the past week has seen massive easterly swells bashing under the Lorne Jetty, waves up to 5ft foam balls smashing through the pylons.

And i have been watching people catch squid every day.

A lot on Squid Poles... but squid none the less.

Fished the lorne pier agian last night. 2 of us had bagged out in under 2 hours. Was greeted with 15-20 knots of wind upon arrival and wasn't too confident. Had to use size 3.5 jigs. Still amazed at how many people were there fishing midweek in those conditions. Didnt notice a lot else being caught.

Lorne Jetty

Fished from 7am to 9am

Light N/E wind, flat ocean, mid tide

Yo-Zuri pink jig....

Not one squid... and neither did anyone else.

Then along comes a guy, first drop with what looked like red Yamashita under a float, bang, 1kg Calamari.

Thats fishing i guess.

Thanks for the report.

Damn them squid! Sometimes I lean towards, 'it does not matter what jig you use if they are there you will catch them' and other times 'it is all about the jig if they are fussy'. Reports like yours just make me second guess myself. I was recently out squidded by a pal (8 to 3) who used a $3 Kmart jig while I used my tricked up Yamishaitas.

Gotta love the fickle cephlapods though.

I'm hearing you nala,

My favourite pink 2.0 Yo-Zuri has just been a complete failure the last 3 trips, in fact when last out in the boat, i watched an Arrow Squid come towards it, then when about 500mm from the jig, it spooked away from it... and i have not caught a squid on it since.

It all looks the same, has a couple of small tears down the side, but that has never seemed to be an issue with other jigs....

My mate had some cheapo orange jig out and was catching them hand over fist.

Yep, sometimes they will go anything, but i have never witnessed them be that fussy before.

Think i'll try any other jig next time.

The guy on on the Lorne Pier this morning just had some cheap jig on, looked like a Red Yamashita, but it wasn't.

Perhaps time under his float was the key??
