HI, first i would like to say what a great site for helping people learning how to catch squid and i wish i had this information a few years ago when i caught my first squid.
any way i went fishing last weekend ((21/11/04) in sydney harbour and i went to all of my squid spots ( and the spots on this site do work ) and i didn't get a thing. We spent 1 1/2 hours trying to find some and nothing. We asked a few other boats around that were doing the same thing and they had no luck either. I am interested if any one else was out on that day and if they caught any squid that day. also i find that pink is by far the best colour and also 2.5, 3.0, 3.5 are the best sizes. the smaller jigs are better if you want a nice size livey but i find that i catch more squid with the little bit bigger sizes. so if anyone has caught some squid in sydney harbour recently it would be good to hear.

Plenty of squid around this week, but they are very touchy. Saw squid at both naval bases, quarantine, and the little point near lady jayne.
As usual, the pink small jigs were the best, with the double rows of hooks getting the better hook-ups

Gday fellas
for finding a spot around syd. or anywhere for that matter if squidin from the shore try to find wharfs with lights hitting the water and fish morning, arvo or night high tides are a plus but not essential if there are no wharfs handy look for rocks, weed beds, bait fish or pylons etc. have a range of sizes and colours in your jigs and change em if you get no response <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> good luck.

Mate, try under the spit bridge at night. They love the lights. Also try the clontarf side of the bridge, there is a nice deep hole there full of squid and what likes to eat them ,..... kingfish! Also Clifton Gardens Wharf as has been mentioned is good. Have fun.

Hi, I tried this last night for an hour with no luck. I was there about half way through a rising tide, so probably when the current was strongest... now I'm guessing that it's better to try this spot on a high or low tide rather than between?
17-03-2005, 08:54 PM
mate the top of the tide is the best, but any tide change is good. If fishing at night, go right over near the bridge lights and bring your lure from out in the light into the dark. Just as it gets into the dark.... WHACK! Most of the info regarding times tides and colours you can get by investigating this website. So now you know the spot, see what is the most common and popular time and happy squidding! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />

it's a bit of a mystery to me why there are not more sydney people in the forum. i imagine you see plenty of other squidders when you are out fishing? cheers, glen <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

20+ knots winds for the last 10 days already, even my #3.5 jigs was floating <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Finally there will be some nice cloudy/rainy days with not much wind for next week! watch out squids!

same down here in melb. weather has been bad but at least we are getting some much needed rain <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Found a weather window yesterday and went for a quick jig. Was still windy enough, still managed to hook 3 squids using a new Aora jig, these sinks faster and are good in windy conditions <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
