I am not familar with the area but it might be worth going for a drive to have a look. Is there a local wharf that you can catch them from? I only have time during the evening so is there access after dark around La Perouse? I have heard that the ferry wharf at Rose Bay is always good to catch a few. The squid are plentiful down this way and we get them from the boat so trying for them up here in Sydney is all new to me.. I'll try and get out the week sometime and have a look around.

Havent fished in rose bay, would be good if you can tell us how you go afterwards! Cheers, Richard

Like you said the bridge is closed. Looks like it will be for a while. Seems like the gates though get locked at night. Problems with car hoons I guess! I should be getting out to the harbour this week so I will let you guys know if anything is happening. Also, most people I have spoken to think the smaller jigs (1.5, 2.0) work best around Sydney? What are people thoughts?

Did you give a crack anyway? could be loaded with squids there now since i havent been squiding <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' /> Yah, small jigs work good i think, size 2.5 would be the go in la perouse. but if you are going boat fishing, larger jigs are good too.

I haven't had a chance to do anything this week. I am actually heading down South for the weekend so I'll try get in a quick squid session while im down. South Coast squid may be a bit healthier than the ones from La Perouse <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' /> I am suprised though, there doesn't seem to be to many good squid fishing spot on the eastern side of the harbour.

Not sure if they are still there, but be sure to pack some small jigs! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' /> Sure south coast squids are better! La perouse is acturally not too bad i think, considering that its so close to the open sea -- better than rose bay thats for sure <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' /> let us know if you catch any! Cheers, Richard[/quote] Nah, down to Jervis Bay. You always catch squid regardless of conditions, plus I always go in the boat. 3.0 & 3.5's work best in the Bay. The new range of Yamashita jigs actually seem to work best. They were outfishing the Yozuri's last time I tried, plus they are cheaper then the Yozuri's!! How can La Perouse squid be healthier then Rose Bay squid?? You have the airport and and Port Botany on top of you <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' /> You should get down South and see how you go. Port Kembla, Kiama or Gerringong would be best. Kiama Harbour is probably best. And its only 45 minutes from Sydney and its a nice easy drive. Last time I actualy caught a lobster there would you believe. I had something heavy on my line and it ended up being a huge bunch of seaweed...........with a lobster inside it <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup2.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' />

Jervis bay is good i heard. yes, use big jigs over there. not sure about the yamashita jigs, whats they called? and what yo-zuri jig did you use last time? Boat fising in Jervis bay is excellent, I know guys picking up kingies there all the time <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Mate, la perouse squids are definitely healthier than Rose bay. Do you know that sydney harbour is so polluted that any fish caught at the west of harbour bridge are un-edible. they were notice sent from fishery, and they warn the fishos that you can only eat like 150 gram of fish a month thats caught at the east of the bridge in the harbour .... Rose bay is so close to the bridge. i wont eat them personally -- still good bait through. La perouse is right next to the botany bay entrance and gets a lot of influx from the open sea, much cleaner i felt. Just my opinion <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/innocent.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Wish i can got south and do some fishing there! Cheers for the spots! Hopefully getting a car soon <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup2.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':thumbsup2:' />

The Yamashita jig is called 'Egi O Q Kogu' they are only new. The Yozuri jigs I use always is the new type with the soft body head (Black & Pink work a treat). Kingies have been crazy this year. I took a week of work in March to spend the week fishing and we cleaned up on them.
About Rose Bay or La Perouse and the pollution im not that fussed. I really just want to try out some jigs. I'm not looking for a feed or anything.

Hi, Just joined the forum literally about 2 hours ago. Sorry this might be a bit of a late reply, I used to go to Rose Bay ferry wharf a fair bit (after last ferry) and get a bit of squid there, nothing to write home about, small arrow squid about 20cm. Sometimes a bit annoying with all the party boats every now and then, but at least it's a well lit area. A bit off topic.. my mate told me he went with a few guys he met fishing for yakka at the Rose Bay wharf down to Diamond Bay off a cliff of about 40m and used them live (kept alive by a pump) any they caught quite a fair few big slimies. BTW, great site!

I was only getting 3 or 4 for Kingfish bait.Everytime the jig hit the water squid came from everywhere! It was sensational ! I only used the jig for 5 mins and had 5 ! All engulfed the jig and because they had so many tentacles caught on the jig (ONLY 1 ROW of HOOKS!) I didn't drop one.Ended the session with all the baits I needed (but only 1 King run) plus 20 to make into Calamari rings YUM YUM ! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />
