Hi Octo!
Have you had a look at the recommended fishing spots section on this website?
Might be a good place to start. There are some Sydney spots listed.
Cheers,
Glen

Hi octo,
I have never fished near sydney. I am told about these fishing spots by users of the website.
Is there no squid at all at balmoral?
Cheers,

<img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol' /> I've caught squid in Port Hacking, but it was so long ago I couldn't tell you specifically whereabouts. All I know is there are squiddies there! Perhaps if you contacted a bait/tackle shop in that area (maybe Cronulla or Caringbah?), chances are they'll be able to tell you where to catch squid off the land.

Rose Bay and La Perouse are prime spots. Any of the ferry wharfs at night - as the light brings them in -) are generally OK.
Hope this helps.
Harvey
thanks harry im goin to check those spots out this week
I'm from Sydney and went squiding on Sunday.
Mind you it's only about the 3rd time I've tried to catch squid, and the weather was foul (and I do mean that. 2m swell, +20kts wind, pissing down rain) so we weren't out for long
Some spots:
Castlecove point Middle Harbour
Lady Jane Beach
Cobblers Beach
Camp Cove (and most of the little points around here)

Hey sam,
Have a look at the Recommended Fishing Spots page for some NSW spots. If anyone has any new spots please let me know and I will add them to this list.

few good spots around botany:
La Perouse around the rocks, use heavy line as occasionally you wil catch a large octopus.
Long Bay can be fairly productive, there are a lot, and I mean a lot of cuttlefish in this area which are also good for jewies.
In the harbour:
The pier at Clontarff Gardens, this is a prime spot for squid and very well sheltered from the wind, always a good producer.
Tell us how you go,
Cheers,
Harvey
hey thanks very much Glen & Harvey....cheers!!

Squid are a top bait for jewies (or mulloway as we normal people call them )
If you can have live squid they are dynamite, otherwise fresh squid is tops also. The heads whole are deadly for big mullies, as are strips from the mantle and wings for schoolies. Squid is handy when fishing as it wont get picked to bits as quickly as some other fish baits will, especially when crabs are about.
Me, personally, prefer to use fish for mulloway, and keep the squid for eating - the heads i use for bait too.
Cheers!
Keep us posted on any success or failures.........

SA - the land of the bigger fish. The fish on the east, measure the least, but if you head west, you'll be bringing in the best!!

Hi Sam,
I've done quite a lot of squiding around Port Hacking. Very good area in general, especially if you want to catch them for bait, because most of them are perfect bait size. At some spots you can see them swimming around under the light, and a lot of them too, but catching them is a different story, they are very shy and so you need a very small jig to get them interested. I suggest you spend a night exploring the area on high tide, just look up the street directory for jetties and whafs. Hope this helps. TTL

I've never gone squidding before, but bought 3 squid jigs from Tackle shop the other day (cos it was on special haha). The colours are pink, blue and green. The jigs have some fabric wrapped around it...weird!)
Can anyone recommend any places in Sydney Metropolitan area? I've caught a huge octopus once by accident but have never gone specifically to catch squid. I'm quite new to fishing too and I've been to Cabarita, Birkenhead Pt and Greenwich. Could someone point me to some okay spots for squidding?

Mate I dont know about the other 2 spots but Greenwich is way too up-river for squid. Sure, somebody must have caught squid there before but in any kind of rain the water there is muddy and squid hate it. For Sydney Harbour, go fish at Kirribili, Clifton Gardens Wharf(towards the rocks is a fantastic spot, almost always delivers) and Balmoral Wharf. Theres a boat-based spot if you want to know as well but these land-based spots are top notch. The curious thing about Clifton Gardens wharf is that from the limited number of times Ive fished there I caught more squid from inside the swimming enclosure than out. But of course thats illegal <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wub.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />
Get there early in he morning or late arvo and night and cast out the jigs and retrive slowly - so long as its not hitting the bottom youre doing good. So mid-water to a bit below is best. Tell us how you go! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />
OWNED.
