Brighton pier and surrounds - VIC

I also had a fish off Queenscliff Pier yesterday, caught one medium sized squid, and learned a lot. For anyone who is interested:

1) I'm not sure if it's normally lit up, but Queenscliff Pier was definately not lit last night, except for one light right at the start of the pier.

2) As soon as it got dark, my pilchard baits were getting stripped to the bone by hordes of big sea lice. This was annoying, because it meant I used up all my baits in about 20 minutes. I then started fishing with yo-zuris, and got one squid. Has anyone come up against sea lice before, and does anyone know how to beat them? (I have heard that dipping baits in kerosene will do the trick, but I can't imagine that a squid would touch a bait after this treatment.....) <_<

3) There was a strong current running....I should have expected this, since the Rip is just next door to the pier. Is fishing at Queenscliff better during slack water?

the way to beat the sea lice is not to let your bait touch the floor so use a float or get some 7m squid poles and just put the fresh bait just on a piece of line and let it dangle in the water if your bait is still getting eaten by lice your fishing to deep.

dont waste your time fishing when there is that amount of lice there.

this time of year only one place at brighton to be fishing and catching good fish and squid and i fish there very often and never see lice.

was out there on 30/12 late evening. sadly no bites for me and none for the 4-5 other people there either.

again what tide and time?



brighton is only good at sunset on a incoming high tide

tried both, the pier and rocks. almost lost a jig at the rocks getting stuck there so I went back to the pier area.

I was there till about sun set, but maybe not late enough to hit to tide change since that seems to happen later in the night during summer.

I did try from sunset till dark at beaumaris with no luck, had clear waters, no chop/wind, but no bites.



so i take it, it would be better around the 8pm+ mark at brighton on a high tide? Will try that next time around.



Have you or anyone else had a good haul at brighton recently?

Hi guys im new to squidfish.net this is my first post and i would like to know where you guys catch squid and snapper i go the brighton pier a lot and usualy use baited jigs

as you can see on the map of brighton pier the (red dot) is where i usualy catch my squid but also there is a (blue dot) up the rely top that blue has a little jetty no more than 10 meters long and i was wondering has anyone fished there, theres also a lot of rocks you can fish off

Hey mate, I'm a newbie also and too is my first post. I'm on Brighton pier also. Been there quite often and might actually be heading there tomorrow evening after work/uni. The red dot is where people say that there's a bit of squid (where there rocks just start forming - next to the big gate for boats). I've never caught any fish or squid yet from Brighton. I have more luck at Mordialloc (fish) but I want to lost my squid virginity at Brighton lol, then head to Beaumaris pier. Weather has been so bad lately <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Thanks man. Got back from Brighton not long ago. Was there between 8.30 - 10.30 and caught nothing. Watched a salmon swim past, slowly mocking me lol and a flathead also <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

every year brighton is very slow at this time,

you will have better luck on pinkies and flathead at this time or year. even pike, bream...



Go to sorrento and get yourself some real squid or cuttlefish.

Beaumaris is going good at them moment but water is very dirt from all this rain and wind is a factor.

Was out in Brighton again yesterday (15/1) and the water was so brown and crappy. Threw a line out to try and catch anything that was out there and had my squid gear, sprayed Stimulate on my squid jig, and still caught nothing. So many people out there yesterday. Left after no bites. The water was so bad. Was at Mornington the same morning between 3.30am - 5.30am - big bites but no hookups. Took the squid rod out and got nothing <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />



Edit: Good chance I'll be heading towards Sorrento this arvo - be there approx 16.30 today (picking up missus from work then heading straight there). Where about in Sorrento people fish/squid from?

anywayz guys has anyone been fishing flinders latly and where abouts do you ctach there

By reading the reports, Flinders does look promising. But also have been reading that there are "pier hogs" there which can be quite aggressive, as well. Good luck if you're heading in that direction. Looking at the google map, there's like a pier you can fish off. Also read that it's always jam packed and the best option is to be there during a week day, when it's not full.

Usually Brighton and Mordialloc. But after my trip to Sorrento yesterday, I'll be heading down south more often! I snagged and lost an orange 2.5 yo zuri but it was worth hooking on to that colossal cuttlefish or octopus (didn't get a good look at it) yesterday! Didn't land it cause my $12 rod combo from k-mart didn't survive and dropped the creature.

so not true bout dredging stuffed brighton, i and many others caught lots of squid at brighton.

we have had a huge amount of rain and it has washed all the dirt from beach road and all the houses along beach into the water.

brighton has never been great for squid from about early december on.

There is a few good spots near brighton at this time of year.

forget brighton for squid and get yourself some big kgw or flathead

sorrento is a a great spot.

was it like a dead weight or taking line?

cuttlefish seam to be a dead weight at sorrento but a octopus goes off.

there is big squid there also.

go get yourself a 3.5 or 4.0 jig and cast it straight out let it sit on bottom and you will get a big cuttle

Yeah, a complete dead weight. Heavy as farkkkkkkkkk. Must be a cuttle then, but it was huge!



I have 3x 2.5 jigs and 1x 3.5 left



Been trying to get my hands on the Yamashita Naory Range Hunter 2.2B in AJCF, but everywhere I have tried to contact - don't stock or have them in at all!

yea i caught a 2kg and it felt like 10kg and i got a bigger one but dropped it at pier.

they are great bait.





i mite be able to get you one in a couple of weeks.....
