Havent fished the pier but have caught squid very close by in the boat. There are weed beds we fish on the left hand side of the pier as you look towards french island, out the front of that rusted old ship. It might be worth a go, fishing the continuation of that bank as it runs under the pier.

I have had quite a number of reports from this area during the week of some big squid taken off the pier.

Anglers fishing silver whiting under a float on the top of the tide have had best results with squid to 2 kilos being taken.

hey flynny,

i read a report a few weeks back of someone having success with slimy mackerel on a bait jig.....worth a try. the squid there may have a liking for slimies..

but u may find the slimies dont last as long as silver whitings, but u may as well have both to try out down at stony point..

I tried Stoney Point Pier on the public holiday (Monday) but it was pretty windy and I did not see many fish get caught.

I only heard of 1 squid getting caught while i was there. Though i left before dusk. I managed to get one toadfish and that was it! I saw a couple of whiting get caught.

There were quite a few people squid fishing but most people seemed to think the wind would upset the squid!

To the man who had been there for 17 hours with only 2 fish.........Better luck next time!

Cheers, Glen

Hey I caught my first Squid ever at stony point. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup2.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> Some guy turned up in the arvo caught about 10 squid then whent home when dark so I gave it a go and caught one for the whole night. Oh this was 15 years ago <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> Got drunk and over cooked it but it was a good chew while I tryed to catch some more. took us the whole night to eat it. Still got the camping ground there? <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/as.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

There are plenty of squid about it seems with reports coming

in from Reef Island, Sandstone Island and Stoney Pt.

The largest we have had reported was 2.5kg, with 1kg squid being taken more regularly. Yamashitta jigs are working well but baited jigs seem to be favorite.

Hi everyone,

I went to Stoney Point with my uncle on Sunday. Not much good. We caught a few leatherjackets and a couple of grass whiting. I saw a few small flathead get caught. Plus a banjo shark.

We got some cute little cowfish which are always nice to see! Sort of like a colourful swimming brick (they are hard as a rock!)

Here is a pic of one I caught previously:

I overheard a guy saying he caught a squid earlier in the day.
