Awesome Pics! F@*king Awesome. I had a wedding to go to on the comps weekend but thought hard about skipping it to get involved. I will next year.
Man, that pic with the lass holding probably the biggest Calamari I have ever seen landed in Vic is truly inspiring. Well done and thanks for the pics pisces_australis.

Hi Nala, well personally myself i was disapointed in my performance as a squid fisho with not being able to land a monster, but looking at squid fishing its not hard to do but we all like to think that we all know the best way of doing it and giving advice gear styles ect ect.
But this sport is a good evener in fishing as anyone can get a squid, and you dont have to be a pro, thats why it will be maybe the biggest revolution to recreational fishing Australia has ever seen.
But getting back to your Question about what area was the best, looking at the reports that came in and the numbers, i would say port phillip bay on that w/e was the winner.
Sorrento portsea for numbers and WP a little quieter for numbers.
Also your profile question about jigs under floats, thats how i used to fish from piers and found it very successful
westernport slowing down to a low tide the best for this style.
cheers ian

G'day Ian,
I have been using jigs under a float as a back up since posting that question some time ago, and I have also moved to the dark side using baited jigs as a back up as well. (I hate dead baits as a general rule). But I am a sucker for lure fishing of all sorts, it is clean, no smell, and is more 'active' and more involved in my opinion, than just flinging some dead thing over the side and hoping for the best.
Cheers,
nala

Yes Ian was a cracking weekend and good turn out, I managed to fall asleep for the weigh in but still had a good couple of sessions, we did our best damage out of Queenscliff using a mix of Megabass and Ecogear jigs, ended up as black as the ace of spades and the mother in law ended up well fed.
This kid was the evil assistant to the one who squirted me while I was trying to land a following squid behind the boat.
Best Regards

Well Nala The biggest cal caught last saturday forgive me if i,m wrong from the info i recieved, was caught by a young fella first time squiding and was using a float with a silver whiting, 53 cm hood i believe., the only reason i say that as some else said 49cm but i,m sure a mrfisho member will clear that up <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />
I,ve never really been a keen bait/float cal fisher i too like the jig/float method but i think i might start using the bait/float method when i can get the opportunity to do so while i,m egiing <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />
May as well increase my chances.
cheers M8
