Squid fishing in Winter

Beakman - i dont think that it affects them so much around here in SA - they breed twice a year, so they will still be around, and in winter there are no annoying afternoon sea breezes, so the water stays calm and clear all day, which is good for squidding..........

Absolutely. Squidding is so visual its EXCITING! I rate catching squid as more entertaining than catching a big bream or flathead. The visual appeal is hard to top <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol' />

I have to agree with you in watching them swim.they look absolutely awsome.Wish I could put some in my fish tank,I know it will keep me amused for hours.

Hey everyone,



I'm new here, but have been squidding for a while. Top site Glen! I noticed it has slowed down remarkably. I dont know if its the weather, but it seems like the Squid in PPB has almost stopped and gone into hibernation. Can anyone shed some light on this?



I've normally Squided during summer on 20+ degree evenings in shorts and singlet, and go for a swim if its quiet. I might put the rod up on the shelf and let the jig dry off for a few months.



If someone could let me know, as i love fishing and especially my stir fried Squid!

up here in QLD winter is the best time for squiding as the clear water is the best for them.

some of you guys would crap yourselves over the way I fish for squid , most of it is done by sight at least 80%.

nothing better than walking along my favourite groin , spotting a bunch of squid..in scoals of 10 or more sometimes..placing a cast a few meters behind them and slowly bringing your jig into the squids sight and enticing them into grabbing it , sometimes they just shoot up and hussle for first grab and other times they wait till it hits the bottom and then sort of stalk the jig looking for signs of movement and the best angle to strike from.

fishing for squid like this is WICKKED and addictive , it's such a challenge at times as they can be easily spooked and switch off the colours and CAN'T be seen untill they switch back on.

I've watched them do this right in front of my feet and was the only way I knew there was a squid there , by seeing this clear shadow on the bottom....crafty bastards.

only when the light is poor like at first light in the morning I cast blind for them but I know all the spots they hang out at and do very well then too.

and it's all only 10 minutes drive from home...how GOOD is this.
