Florida Squid Fishing

I have friends that charter out of Venice Louisiana but I actually like being in the keys better.

Care to tell more about this fishing club you mentioned?

There should be squid around there. I have quite a few customers in the St. Petersburg area, and they do quite well this time of year. I would think the waters would be similar, so squid fishing time should be similar.



The preferred jigs are usually very small, in the 1.0" - 1.5" size. Most of the people do them on piers, or boats, primarily at night under a light.

First thing, thanks for your so fast answer.



Though the waters and seasonal catch for fish, around Saint Pete do not resemble those of the Keys, I have good reason to presume the season here would be a month before the begening and end of the season there. In this regard, I thank you in advance, should you be kind enough to precise me the month.



Anyways, I am going to put four lamps (the aluminum type we use here for shrimping) above and two under water.

So have you ever tried squiding in your area?

I have fished and snorkeled parts of the keys but have not seen any squid. Maybe I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

squid migration in florida is determine by the weather. florida must have a constant series of cold front from Up north to push the pods of squid closer to the many piers we have here in florida. squid loves cold water temperature, the colder the temperature, the better migration of the squids. this year , we had constant cold fronts this November compared last year. because of that, squids showed up last week . i hope the cold remains constant for them to stay and come closer to the piers. they will stay here until April before the weather warms up again. good squidding piers are the Skywaypiers North/South and Fort de soto piers located here in St Petersburg Florida. but do check also the many piers here in florida, they will have squids as long the water temperature is cold below 65 degrees , most important is there must be small baitfish present in the piers which is their source of food. also consider the lighting in the pier the brighter /more lights -this would be a good pier.enjoy florida in the winter and happy squidding!!!! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />

I live over in Saint Petersburg on the West Coast and I've been wondering exactly what the season is for squid? Thanks very much!
