I'm not sure what part he is in, but I think there is squid available in most parts. We sell quite a lot in the Panama City area. Not sure on exact timing for the best fishing however. We have some tiny pink jigs that were knocking them dead down there.

The Fort Walton Beach fishing pier is called the Okaloosa Island Pier.Here is a [url="http://okaloosaislandpier.com/"]weblink[/url]Same variety of fishing game and for the non-fishing members of your group a boardwalk(restaurants & shops) and aquarium within shortwalking distance(at the pier entrance).The Beach has the cleanest whitest sand(almost a powder and like snow) I have ever seen in the USA.The water is so clear that when sunlight plays off( reflects) the shallows it has emerald green color hence the name "The Emerald Coast". Because of water clarity "hot pink" is excellent in the daytime,but the Squid are very shy-better after dark with "Glow Baits". <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />

The Dan Russell pier is very well lite and amply attracts forage and game.The prime Squid location is at the Bathroom locale out on the pier.The prime reason is the 1st submerged sandbar (from the shore) is directly beneath it.(The second sandbar is about 50 yards off the end of the pier-located with Bouys-it has a sudden up to 30 foot drop due to dredgeing for beach sand reclaimation.Big things are feeding ....in the dredge trough-SHARKS <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' /> !!!).Even at lowside spring tides the sandbars are not exposed. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' />

Sometimes one likes to get away from everyone and do a little Daytime squiding with a view.Well Okaloosa Island east pass Jetty may just answer that need.Less than ten minutes drive due east of the Okaloosa Island fishing pier on HWY 98 just before the East pass bridge to Destin is a USAF Rec parking lot open to the public sunup to sundown.Rustic with no bathrooms.This first USGS aerial picture shows Destin Harbor to the right and Okaloosa Island to the left







The second picture is a closeup note the sailboat sailing into the Gulf of Mexico via the East pass.







Note the almost Mile long length of the Jetty! From the sand parking lot to the jetty is a 30 minute walk over sand. The walk is worth it because 2/3 of the Barrier Island is joint USAF/Okaloosa National Seashore NO Developement a westview of around 10 miles of NON-DEVELOPED Beach and odds are you are the only one on the beach!!!! The view across the channel is Destin (the bridge is HWY 98) Harbor and towards late afternoon the Sailboats go out for sundowner cruises. The eastpass channel connects the Gulf of Mexico to the Saltwater Choctaahatchee Bay (I have seen 12' Hammerhead sharks follow Bonito schools on the High tide into the bay via the channel). Bring Drinks and snacks!!! HOT PINK Baits for the Squids!!

We catch squid here on the south central east coast. During the summer months we go out at night in 60' of water using 12 volt fluorescent lights that fit in our rod holders. The surface is generally covered with squid with 15 minutes of turning the lights on. The size of the squid we catch is ~ 6 inches with a few 12+ inch ones. We stumbled on them purely by accident night time snapper fishing a few years ago and have had a ball trying to catch them since. We have tried dipping them, throwing cast nets and using various squid jigs (the most successful method) all with limited success but still manage to fill a 5 gallon bucket generally. Good luck
