Hi everyone, i had another request today seeking information about squid fishing spots in Florida. Any help would be very welcome.

Cheers, Glen <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' />
I'm not sure what part he is in, but I think there is squid available in most parts. We sell quite a lot in the Panama City area. Not sure on exact timing for the best fishing however. We have some tiny pink jigs that were knocking them dead down there.

cheers, glen <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />
I have fished for many moons the Dan Russell Pier in Panama City Beach. The Squid Run in the late spring(If you are wanting to fill a 5 gallon Bucket!).Being a son of a Career U.S. Navy sailor,I have had the privilege of fishing salt water piers all over the Country. The Dan Russell pier can be the most very reliable for a catch(not just Squid,I once caught a 170 # Nurse Shark on a 9/0 Penn with 80# test and helped a Guy land a 475# hammerhead shark!I have also seen a 25# Blackfin Tuna Caught! Many Mackeral King and Spanish etc!).May to October Squid can be had!Mostly Oriental ex-pats fish using Jero jigs after dark on Ultralight spinning rod & reel Combos.I have used a spent Bonito carcass tied by the tail and suspended in the water to attract squid! Here is a link Dan Russell pier.Half Hitch Tackle Runs a small satellite tackle shop at the front of the Pier(main tackle shop in PC).Here is a link to the Main Half Hitch tackle for fishing info contact them.Half Hitch also has a sister shop in Destin.I have Squided the pier in Fort Walton Beach with success also. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />

The Squid in PC caught from Fishing Piers run from 4" to 10" long. The runts show up after sundown the monsters(some 12") show up in the dark hours of the night. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

The Fort Walton Beach fishing pier is called the Okaloosa Island Pier. Here is a weblinkSame variety of fishing game and for the non-fishing members of your group a boardwalk(restaurants & shops) and aquarium within shortwalking distance(at the pier entrance). The Beach has the cleanest whitest sand(almost a powder and like snow) I have ever seen in the USA.The water is so clear that when sunlight plays off( reflects) the shallows it has emerald green color hence the name "The Emerald Coast". Because of water clarity "hot pink" is excellent in the daytime, but the Squid are very shy-better after dark with "Glow Baits". <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />

The Dan Russell pier is very well lite and amply attracts forage and game. The prime Squid location is at the Bathroom locale out on the pier. The prime reason is the 1st submerged sandbar (from the shore) is directly beneath it.(The second sandbar is about 50 yards off the end of the pier-located with Bouys-it has a sudden up to 30 foot drop due to dredgeing for beach sand reclaimation.Big things are feeding ....in the dredge trough-SHARKS <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' /> !!!).Even at lowside spring tides the sandbars are not exposed. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' />

Now how about a very long Fishing Pier!Santa Rosa Island is the home of the Pensacola Beach Fishing Pier and is over 1400 feet long.It straddles both sandbars <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' /> !!!Here is A link to the pier. The site is not regularly updated, but the pier is operational. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' />

The photos don't do the sand justice-the color is a honest virgin snow white! The Building at the start of the pier is the Tackle shop at the end is the bathrooms with soda machine. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' />
Sometimes one likes to get away from everyone and do a little Daytime squiding with a view.Well Okaloosa Island east pass Jetty may just answer that need.Less than ten minutes drive due east of the Okaloosa Island fishing pier on HWY 98 just before the East pass bridge to Destin is a USAF Rec parking lot open to the public sunup to sundown.Rustic with no bathrooms. This first USGS aerial picture shows Destin Harbor to the right and Okaloosa Island to the left

The second picture is a closeup note the sailboat sailing into the Gulf of Mexico via the East pass.

Note the almost Mile long length of the Jetty! From the sand parking lot to the jetty is a 30 minute walk over sand. The walk is worth it because 2/3 of the Barrier Island is joint USAF/Okaloosa National Seashore NO Developement a westview of around 10 miles of NON-DEVELOPED Beach and odds are you are the only one on the beach!!!! The view across the channel is Destin (the bridge is HWY 98) Harbor and towards late afternoon the Sailboats go out for sundowner cruises. The eastpass channel connects the Gulf of Mexico to the Saltwater Choctaahatchee Bay (I have seen 12' Hammerhead sharks follow Bonito schools on the High tide into the bay via the channel). Bring Drinks and snacks!!! HOT PINK Baits for the Squids!!

This 3rd picture is a calm day view at low tide of the Gulf (note the gin clear water-in the previous aerial photos submerged sandbars are visible) CLICK TO VIEW (WIDE IMAGE):

!!! Tight lines from the Emerald Coast!! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' />

Destin of course is Bluewater Big game Fishing mecca. You have several tackle shops-Half Hitch & Bass Pro shop are a few that come to mind. If you do not own a yacht,no problem. Charterfishing & Partyboat fishing (inshore & offshore) can be found for a price. Combined with 1st class clubs & dining-wow! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' />

Literally seconds from nighttime, the view along the Emerald Coast can take your breath away(what looks like peebles is actually clams venting beneath the sand at low tide)<img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' /> ![Image: 01-14-06Sunsettheemeraldcoast.jpg]

We catch squid here on the south central east coast. During the summer months we go out at night in 60' of water using 12 volt fluorescent lights that fit in our rod holders. The surface is generally covered with squid with 15 minutes of turning the lights on. The size of the squid we catch is ~ 6 inches with a few 12+ inch ones. We stumbled on them purely by accident night time snapper fishing a few years ago and have had a ball trying to catch them since. We have tried dipping them, throwing cast nets and using various squid jigs (the most successful method) all with limited success but still manage to fill a 5 gallon bucket generally. Good luck

Has anyone any experience about squid/cuttlefish fishing in the Keys, particularly concerning season(s), time/spots and most efficient lures?
