Hello -- could anyone tell me how squid ink is obtained?
Does it involve killing squid? Does it include squid itself?
I'd like to make delicious squid ink pasta for my boyfriend
who is a strict vegetarian, but I wanted to be sure that
I wouldn't be making a tragic mistake..
Thanks!

yes they normally kill the squid to get the ink. sorry for the bad news! the ink is stored in an ink sack within the squid.
here is a photo of an ink sack -

perhaps you should ask him how he feels about it before you cook that meal for him.
best of luck, glen
Thanks, Glen!
that was very helpful!

Michele
