hi juballs, can you please provide more information about what you are asking. spear fishing would not impact at all on shark food if that is what you mean by "competition". the commercial fishers and recreational fisherman harvest far more fish than spear fisherman.

or are you asking about spearing sharks in a competition?

cheers, glen

Glen & RX3 Boi,

Sorry about my unclarity. The other day I was spear fishing in the bay and I came across a shark - or a shark came across me and it scared the ###### out of me. There was a little altercation but I'm ok, and hopefully the shark? Just wanted to know if anyone else had come across sharks in the Bay or elsewhere

i tried banjo shark once and it seemed very salty to me. i didn't enjoy eating it.

you get very little meat off them too...you can only get 2 smalll fillets off the tail section....so 90% goes in the rubbish bin.

i would never keep one again <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

only reason i got this one is because my brother speared it accidentally thinking it was a flounder! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

What sort of altercation? what sort of shark? I never used to give a toss about them - used to tie a burly bag to my weight belt at Flinders - but all these shark doccos have made me paranoid!
