Newport, Ri - 2007 Squid Season

I've been out on the party boat Mike talked about, and also took my boat over to greenport last year for the first time. The party boat is more of a social experience, lots of room to relax on the way out and in, and given the weather in the early spring, you can definitely get out more reliably then in a private boat. The night we went, we anchored off the beaches to the west of PJ, and though it was a bit choppy and the wind was blowing, it was very comfortable.



Taking your own boat can be an adventure even in good weather at that time of year (fog is likely if the wind isn't blowing).



All in all it was a blast. I definately plan on doing it again multiple times this year - it's great eating and great bait. Maybe I'll even find a quiet spot and just do an overnighter as well.



Either way, I prefer to fish from a boat because the combat fishing at a hot spot like the goat island bridge has never been fun for me.

Hi All,

Great to read about squid fishing. Tried it last year for the first time from East Ferry on Jamestown but missed by about a week. Now I have a boat in Westbrook, CT. Anyone know about the suid run in this area? I'm thinking it may be a week or two earlier.

From what I've experienced and learned from reading, the Squid usually start to run rather well around the 3rd week of April. We did have somewhat of a mild winter, so I'm hopeing things kick up a little earlier this year. I'm going to guess, April 16th. Going to go try my luck with my wife and son around then at Goat Island

Hey guys I found this posting website just a few days ago. I'm a big fisherman and I just went squidding yesterday. I actually caught about 10. The season started pretty early. I went to this secret place in Jamestown that is a summer camp place. Now a lot of people know about it but it's ok. Well I tried my luck in Jamestown caught a few then, I went over to Woodshole, Mass where I caught a few more. I live in New Hampshire, so it's a long ride. I just want to tell you guys that THERE HERE! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/moped.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' />

Soccerlife how long were you fishing for? What time day or night? I think I am going to give it a shot Saturday night. I will let you all know on Sunday. The water is still a bit cool though 42 degrees hopefully I will still see some action though.

I'm making a trip to the causeway on monday or tuesday, hopefully find a few... Are you kidding? In woodshole, Ma today it was pretty packed. People where catching few but not much

Yeah they havent arrived in Newport yet.. Im guessing couple more days hopefully!! Usually I dont mind driving a HR bymyself to Newport since theres always plently of people there, but it felt so lonely bymyself haha.

Yeah still a little early, Im thinking of trying again maybe tommrrow night or tuesday! I'll post my results...I hope im not the only person fishing again at night!
