Massachusetts - Harbor area
#61
i ment in a friendly way =).

I too will be complaining about the fishing license. but you know what. our saltwater fishery is completely messed up. i rather spend my money on something i love.. or "for" the thing i love than have it taxed away some other way. i mean look at fuel.. half of that is taxes by the US gov.

My family are big fish eaters. Scup was the last stable fish for filling the freezer for the year at a reasonable cost. before that it was flounder.. before that it was cod. SOON only skates only will be left. Look at europe and australia..

I mean glen.. dont you love your gummys sharks? (green eyed dogfish) or a 7 "gill-a" (sand shark)

they actively pursue dogfish over there. they call it flake. we find it a nuisance. i mean they would be happy with what we get. I have filled a 100 gallon drum with dog fish for shark chum in a hour or two.

but.. these are my opinions. =). feel free to knock me down =)

gummy shark and school shark are both used for flake in fish and chip shops.

they taste great i think! no bones. easy to eat <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

i think dog fish might be something different.

You don't have to tell me. I remember when I was a boy I would able catch every type of fish on one stringer at Castle Island. That be cod, bass, mac, flounder, pollack and that doesnt include all the eels I throw back. I quite fishing in the late 80s and didnt get back into till a few yrs ago I got the bug back. We will call it even when you take me fishing LOL. I rember the days fishing scup on party boats and filling a 5 gallon bucket for the winter also in a hr.
I hope you don't mean I am bitching. I have no problem with 10 scup as I cant eat fish anyways. I knew the reg was being reviewed towards the end of last season. Wait till the saltwater licenses come out then you going to see bitchin. But I will say is you wont be able to say I dont the regs or no speak english, no understand.
Ha. We obviously understand. I am bitching. Because 10 is low no matter. And 50 for private vessels?
What bag limit 10? THATS RIDICULOUS. Wasn't it 25 last year and the year before that it was 50. This is stupid eventually itll be 5 <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />
I have been fishing for scup/sea bass around the Mass water in the last 10 years. I can attest that scup fishing has been degrading in the last few years. I have seen charter buses from NY/NJ area and come here load 'em up here. I remember just a few years ago the limit was 9" and you can keep 100 fish. I thought that was "too generous" and I had seen people loaded up a cooler full of 9" or 10" fish. It doesn't suprise me the situation we are in now.

I am seriously thinking about going to R.I. party boat this year to catch scup. From 6/1 - 8/31 you can keep 25 fish (10.5" min) and 9/1 - 10/31 you can keep up to 60.

Yeah thats a good idea. Although, I been fishing scup/black bass. For a few years myself. I notice them getting fewer also. But they are getting pretty large. I go fishing for them near Marthas Vineyard Area.

i remember when the buses from all over the east side of US came for the flounder in quincy bay. I remember the plywood skiffs being filled til they were inches from being capsizing.. people use to fill drums with filets..

flounder was thought to be so abundant it wouldnt be exhausted.. it was like scup fishing..

and they say the flounder are coming back..

never will i see those days..

funny thing. I wasn't even alive for those days. yet they remain in my memories from the old tymers.

I hate to see scup go like that too. but i doubt they will since we have fisheries management now.

I was thinking about poking around the North End waterfront one of these nights looking for squid. Has anyone ever tried dropping a jig in this area with any success?
