where abouts do you put your boat in. Where is Hellen H go out of, is this a boston trip. I also have a boat looking for some good fishing spot in NG bay.
The Hellen H is out of Hyannis, I put in all over, Plymouth (Race Point, Stellwagen), New Bedford (the Elizabeths, The Vinyard), Pt Judith (Block Isl.), Pawtucket(upper narr. Bay), Warwick(mid bay), Little Compton, I've had some luck out on Lucas shoal for Fluke, I've caught Bass all over, Most of the keepers came from the Elizabeths. I'm heading for Chatham this week, gonna chase Bass, Blues Fluke, and I'm ready for some tuna. I use Captain Seagulls charts and study the tides and water temps. It's definatly a learning curve and I'll be a rookie for the rest of my life, but its fun for the family and it often proves challenging. In NG bay the bass have moved down, as have the porgy's. Their kind of spread out now but the guys working at it are getting a fair number of descent fish. Won't betoo long and the water in the bay will be too warm.

Last weekend decided to cast a line for any big fish. I had been to this spot, and done well with the bass. However, I got even more lucky when I left 2hrs later with about 50 squid. The squid are still in RI, you just have to look for them.

Why another week or two? I'm thinking with the cooler summer/fall it might cue them to come in earlier. Have you been down there lately? I'm probably going to be heading down to check tonight, but working at URI while living near Yale makes it difficult to 'swing by' Newport. Let ya know what comes of tonight

From what I've heard, their was a summer run of squid in Boston Harbor. There is a fall run out at the Vinyard, don't think that they come back to GI until the spring. Hope this helps <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />

Water temp is still a little warm. I'm not saying there not around yet. In the past they seem to be more present mid Oct. into late and sometimes even early Nov. Dont count on the numbers you would find during the spring or the size by that mater. This run are the younger hatchlings from the spring brood. Be sure to dress warm if you try.
As for jigs, the smaller the better. The 3.5" yozuri's seem to work just find though.

Hey there,
Went twice last week at night. both nights were ok. The second night was a bit better, I fished GI and caught around 30 small ones. It takes alot of finesse to catch these little guys. (Intermeddaite/Advance squidfishing technique's) I expect the next two weeks being the highlight of the run. Again, if you make the trip remember this is nothing like the spring run and its cold...... <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/1407561139_0178cfe6ea_o.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />
What's up Alan, good to see you the other night.
I may be out Sunday night at GI, if you go....come say hi.

jiggin is a lot different right now. You really have to work the jib until you find a motion that atracts the squid, and then stick with it. If you can find the right way to scare up a squid they are there. Been a couple good days. Save your gas for a couple days more

Has anyone ever tried to umbrella net them?
I have seen them school up in numbers that could be netted, but probably not so, this season.
I may have to go try for awhile.
