#21
Hi Matt

You can fishing, now is good for blue fish (mackerel and similary).

There is good organized big game picnic in Vodice (70 km north of Split). There are one of the best Adriatic fisherman - http://www.game-fishing-adriatic.com/chart...rod_bakul.phtml - highly recomended.

About locations i recomend islands. Brac (if you want party's and nightlife - willage Bol), Hvar (nice for camping in Jelsa) and Korcula (best for quiet holidays and fishing).

Thanks Zex,

I'm going to take your advice and head to Brac. Looking forward to a couple of days break away from the UK. Shame about the squid, guess will have to go back some other time <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' />

Hello Zex,

I came across your message all the way from Melbourne, Australia. My parents are Croatian my father is from Lastovo. I will be heading to Croatia next year and will spend about 2 months in Lastovo around May / June. How is the fishing at this time of year? Are the squid active at this time of year?

Hi Colossal!

Lastovo is fisherman's heaven in the Adriatic sea, there you can catch everything. From this year Croatian government declared Lastovo 'special park of nature' so there you must have normal and special license. Normal buy in the tourist office or fishing club and special from the rangers. It is not expensive but you can have big problems if don't buy it.

All other you will see there, I assume that you have relatives there and they can tell you what, where and how to fishing <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Welcome back to your roots <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />

Hi Glen, it was delicious, as usual. A little tip - when you put a squid in the ice clean them but ink put into a small bottle and not in ice, just in the refrigerator.

Hello here is Chris from Germany

Look what i caught while fishing with sardine as bait near Blitvenica SO of the kornati nat. park.

My target was catching red porgy on a 300ft deep underwater mountain.

So it was an accident .

Looks like Loligo forbesi because the flames on the skin.

I am very proud and happy about my first <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/images2.jpg' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Confusedq:' />

Another day on the same place i was happy with an octopus.

Start fishing again there in Oktober with squid lures.

I Just came back from Croatia I was there for 3 months on holiday. I have to say the fishing was very disappointing in Croatia which was a shame when you consider how beautiful the country and the sea is there. I spent a large part of me time in Lastovo which is a national park. As an Australian with parents who are Croatian I can honestly say that the fishing in Croatia was very average both in the boat and on the land. Apart from having some success when spear fishing and catching octopus by hand when snorkeling, I was very unhappy with the state of the fishing while I was there. The sea has been raped over time by nets and long lines. I went to many local fish markets in the large cities and most of the fresh fish are from farms! When you consider that I live in Melbourne which has 4.5 million people and I can go fishing in Port Phillip Bay and always catch something and then Croatia with 4.2 million people and struggle to catch something, it is very sad for such a beautiful country. I guess it shows you how important it is to have a good government who care for the future of a country and its natural resources. This is something that Croatia definately does not have..............

To top it off, they wanted $900 kuna for a fishing licence for one month when all I had was a single fishing rod so I could teach my son how to fish. That is criminal.

Yes, thats right what you say !

To much nets and lines everywhere.

The lokal fisherman dont care about the recources of the sea. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

They try to kill all.... to get a little wealth.

They think of nothing but self, thats a part of the croatian mindset. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/1407561139_0178cfe6ea_o.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':pirate:' />

Maybe a result of the war.

The price for the licence is really high. Me, i buy the big game licence to.

Together it kost 2400 kuna one month.

I am down fishing that area, deep sea 3-4 month every summer just for fun. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/fishing.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':rod:' />

Hunting for bottomfish like porgys, john dory, scorpionfish, grouper, conger, scads , mackerel and more.

You understand the croatian names: pagar, kantar, okan, sampjer(kovac), scrpina, kirnja, ugure. Sharun, lokarda and bugwa for bait.......

I´m not unhappy , was really lucky <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/clover.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':clover:' /> there the last 6 years.

The fishing-system in the adriatic is very special. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/fishie.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':fishie:' />

Only very few angler understand how and where to fish with rod and reel.

Also gamefish like tuna and broadbill is caught every year.

If you come to croatia again, visit me !

I will show you something. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' />

TL from south-west germany

In Croatia, as the government does not exist, or rather this government as it works against its own people or the state ... But here we are already off topic, I would only confirm that the cost of fishing license is a big crime.
