Hyannis and Edgardtown Squid
#41
Capt. Jeff Viamari, Bad Influence Sportfishing, is reporting good squid fishing on his Facebook account.  Pictures as well.  He also has an open boat trip for the 11th which has 4 spot left as of a few minutes ago (Link: https://www.facebook.com/events/617271201761669/  ).  I'm going with him on Monday night and on Thursday night of this week out of Yarmouth.  Might be going out tomorrow, Saturday night, out of Falmouth with a new fishing buddy who has already sent me pictures of his great catch last Tuesday night with 2 other friends.

This is my first year of squid fishing so I'm really lucky to have met Capt. Jeff last year and got introduced to my new fishing buddy by Capt. Jason Colby, Little Sister, with whom I do a lot of winter flounder fishing at this time of year out of Quincy.

I could use some advice from experienced guys regarding freezing the squid for bait.   Can I freeze them "as is" or do I need to clean them first.  I intend to use them whole or cut up, depending on size, for stripers and fluke.   Maybe sea bass as well.  FYI, I ordered a vacuum sealer but it got backordered so I'll be using zip-lock bags to store them in the freezer.

You did better than us !

Got there around 8:30am very foggy morning after an hour

Or so only caught a few squid, we gave up and fish for scup. Got 120 super size scups in about 5 hours Maxed out our limit for the days.

What've happened to the squid ?

Very slow for me on 5/7, though some others did better. I calculate each squid at just over $10 in fuel.

Sea robbins everywhere. The fleet did well on scup. Water still 50-51.8.

Yeah lots of sea Robbins hitting the jigs, I've noticed in the past that once the scup move in they push the squid out. The Hyannis ramp was a traffic jam last night around 730, don't know if they did any better at night?

The scup and black Seabass are here so I think squid fishing is done.

You know, people said that when the scups and black sea bass are in the squid will not hanging around.

I find that not necessary true, because there were years that the bites were good with the squid and fish were every where including

Stripe bass. Let be optimistic and hope that the squid are coming. Too early in the season to give up. I'll keep you guys posted.

I will make a few more squid trips.

We fished Colliers on Sunday. Slow in the morning. Joined the fleet at Colliers around noon. Slow but steady bite. Ended up with a bucket fishing from 12-3 pm between 3 guys. Small Orange and Pink jigs worked best for us.

Hi guys, new to the forum and squid fishing in general.  I think im heading to Hyannis Thursday night.  gonna fish from sunset until sunrise.  im assuming I can just follow the fleet to find some action.  I got all the equipment (underwater light, halogen flood light, sonar, etc.) but lacking the knowledge and experience.  Only one way to learn I guess

We went to Hyannis Monday night.  Managed a bucket from 6:00 PM-2:30 AM.  We fishes inside Collier ledge.  Closer to shore.

I noticed no one was fishing at Collier Ledge.  So I went out there.  Got 6 squids at first, and thought this is it..but then nothing (no catch) for at least

15 minutes.  So we moved closer to shore again.  About the fish and squid..I noticed the sea robbins and squid go together..if there's

sea robins in good numbers..there's squid...they come and go..travel in pact..strange.

I had a squid fishing trip for tonight that got cancelled.  I ran the above report  by my captain who said he had already called everybody that was there and that it was a false report.

I'm sure that Gilligan received the information he posted; I'm merely saying that it doesn't seem to be a true report that person gave to Gilligan.

Going for a combo tog and scup trip tomorrow morning.
