I know others will post on this and add to my comments, here is my take...
1. Times don't seem to matter much when they are running thick. Go when you can and when they are running.
2. No advice on this, I plan on trying this for the first time this year.
3. I fish a 1/2 or 1 oz weight on the bottom with 2 or 3 dropper loops for the jigs. Smewtimes I switch it up and fish either a single weighted yo-zuri or the weighted jig with one on a dropper loop...I change mysetup util I notice one is producing over the other...Most important, if someone near you is bailing them, look at their rig and technique.

yeah i would not bring kids out after sunset... the wind and temperature on the bridge can be brutal...
i usually use a 1 oz (sometimes a 2 oz) sinker depending on the water current... under the bridge is notorious for snagging...
OK... does anyone know of a fishing news section for the cape cod newspaper sites... something like a projo outdoors fishing report??

Yep. pretty much nailed it on the head imo.
Morning, noon or night. When theyre running thick, go on your own leisure.
I too fish 1/2oz. I've found this to be the most effective weight FOR ME. At times I will also go up to 1oz.
I dont go more than 2 dropper loops. For the most part its one near the sinker. And the other is a couple feet or so above that. If they dont like the jigs, I'll keep switching til they do...color, sz/wt, & styles. And if that doesnt work, then try weightless with 2 jigs...or weightless with 1 jig. And if that still doesnt work, I'll go with my secret weapon (everyone's gotta have one or 2 of those). You know, that jig that pulls em out while others are blanked. You dont want to rig it just yet because of that chance of losing it. And lastly, if that fails, I'll see "a guy" I know. If he's not catching, no one else is =)

Same advice here. I don't use any hardware other than jigs. Squid don't have big eyes for nothing! Use a loop at the end for the sinker as well, that way you can change out pretty quickly. I keep a back-up spare leader/dropper-loop setup in my back pack so I don't have to re-tie the whole rig in the dark if I run into a snag or tangle.You'll need a light source at night as well. This is great fun for kids, but the advice about cold nights was on the money.You really only need light rod/reel setups and take the time to teach kids to feel what the sinker feels like when it's hitting on the bottom. I use a 5 1/2 foot med-light spinning rod. I use this rig for fluke and blues in the summer with 17# fireline crystal. In the spring, I simply tie on my squid leader and I'm ready to go. Once squid season ends, I change the line out for the summer. Braided monos and flourocarbon leaders are overkill for sure, but that's basically what I use now all the time anyways, and I've adjusted my reactions to account for the no stretch factor. But reg mono works fine and you can squid fish for not much money. I think that's one reason it's become so popular. Don't forget a 5 gallon pail!

Perhaps i misunderstood but you're using 17# fireline w/a leader and you're catching squid with it? In my experience, the squid tend to be line shy so I use 8-10lb mono on a medium action spinning reel/rod. I found it's the perfect size and the line is thin enough to not spook the squid but strong enough to not snap if you get snagged a bit. (personally i've never gotten snagged or lost a jig...knock on wood)
What # line/type are you using for fluke?

Man I wish I can go this weekend. But its kinda far drive. But if its good squidding i might go sunday. Who wants to go with me. Besides the other 10000 that are gonna be there

stopped by a few spots in jamestown and npt this afternoon, didn't see much of anything in the water, or inky spots on the docks or pavement.......
the water temp isnt to my liking yet, nor is the moon, looking better for mid week next week and next weekend...
i am going to hold off my trip tonight, redsox yankees should keep me and the squid squad entertained.....

its Peter,
nice meeting you guys. nothing so far only caught a sea robin 12" going to give it a couple more hours see what happens when tide changes. let me know i live too far. Definitely will try again next week. next week i will have better spot lights. Iâm going to light up the place. hopefully bring home a couple of buckets full.

Soccerlife, It's still early but if you take the boat you might want to try off the beaches West of the West Gap at the Point Judith breakwater. Drift around for fluke and if you find squid pulling on your fluke baits or chasing them as you reel in, mark the spot .
Then drift the area with squid jigs or wait until evening and anchor up, sight up, chum up, and you might get them.
Last year we did nothing in Newport but pretty well between the West Gap of the PT Jude breakwater and Nebraska Shoal. Try different depths from 10' to 40' You might find them but I don;t think they'll be schooled up yet. Good luck. Snaildarter

Water Temp: about 47f degrees
Nothing again tonight, there was a lot of people out there, parking lot was full. There was about four lights on the rock wall and four off the bridge and about three boats with their lights near the Newport bridge. I didn't see anyone around me catch anything, I did catch bait on my jig, the majority of the people out there started bugging out around 9:30p. I guess I'll try again tomorrow.
