#41
aint pulling anyones chain...

but someone came called me today and picked my brain

his statement was someones catching squid in RI.

couple weeks ago.

I am in disbelief, he is too. can someone prove this (My disbelief) =)

i hate to drive down there as i do not have the time to chase a goose.

any rhodys pass by the bridge lately? no ink stains right =).

The only thing at the Causeway is a pair of Spring Malards finding love. No Mackerell and no squid. It is good weather and still a bunch of fun to fish.

Hey King Squid welcome in. Naming the causeway is not going to make it any more crowded. If you google "squid RI" it'll be there. No secret. Yeah its crowded but sometimes that's the fun. The comraderie, the squid cooking and eating, the beverages, the mine's brighter competition. Ignore the idiots and you find lots of great folks there.

Hey great folks, sfox, suzie, Johnat, Alan, Travis, Tatonka, AT, and all the unamed freinds who have shared the calamari, lights, trash detail and quarters...........happy spring!

CU Soon, BB and Noah too!

Does anyone have any proven ideas how to keep all the ink from ika that 6 people will be jigging up off my new gelcoat?

Any ideas or suggestions?

AT, I'll be working on figuring that one out this year also. I got a trailer for the Grady and a truck big enough to pull it so I'll be inking it up if all goes as planned.

Last year.... first season with the boat.... in a pinch I took some old headlights (4) and a couple of 10" wide planks and cut holes in the end of them so that the lights would point down. I laid the boards across the transom and ran the four headlights from a seperate battery. Worked fine!!. This year I will have work lights mounted on the T-top and wired to a seperate battery.

On my 20' CC we put a small Honda generator up in the bow (was pretty quiet) and ran two extensionb cords back to the stern. Flood lights were mounted on down east rod holders that fit into the boat's rod holders. The gimble prevented them from turning. They worked great. Snaildarter

I'm game! I just hope they show up. A couple of year ago we did great (3 buckets between three of us in 4 hours) by the Quonsett Pier up in the bay above the Jamestown Bridge by the Naval airforce base. It's all lit up and we anchored in 15 ft of water about 100 ft from the pier. There is a nice dropoff there to 30 feet. Added a chum bucket to the mix and we hammered them. Last year was a bust. Nothing, Nada, Skunko, etc

Let's coordinate something once it starts happening. Snaildarter

Hey bob! How goes it?

Hey we had that one decent night out on your boat last season. That was the best night of squidding I had all last season! Other than that, last year was a real wash out.

I hope they didn't change the fluke regs again this year. I'll have to look into that.

EDIT: I see they are holding a hearing on the 09 regulations on 4/22, but they kept the 14" size limit for the comm'l guys <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol' /> I really hope they don't increase the recreational size again. It was tough enough to limit out last year. I gotta believe there's going to be some real doormats out there this year.

Hey George, I sent you a private message earlier this morning. Did you get it? Yeah we did ok that night, especially you with the deadstick. I was referring to the night I went up to the pier last year with the boat and got skunked. The pier was the best spot that I've found including the bridge at GI. If you didn't get my PM (Travis is teaching me this new language), call me on my cell (203) 605-6995 Bob

Sounds good to me as well. I need a ramp capable of launching and retrieving a 25'r (GW Sailfish). I'll be coming from the Cape.

Point Judith is probably your best bet. It's only about 7 miles to Newport. Snaildarter

There is a nice DEM ramp at Fort Adams in Newport. I haven't used it in a few years though, so I'm not sure how well it's been maintained or if anything's changed. Also, you'll need to check if they close access at night as it's in the park.

Hi all,

I have been fishing for years but while in Japan earlier this year I picked up some squid jigs and I am dying to jump into squid fishing. Sorry for the basic questions but what LB test line do you use? Is it hopeless with out having any light setup? I will probably initially go to the GI bridge in the hopes of fishing/watching and learning.

Hope to see you out there! Good luck!

Unless they did a upgrade in the laswt 2 years, the Ft. Adams ramp is not very good. It is narrow, unlit and not in great shape. The lot is open at night but there isn't much parking. You also have to through the narrow downtown streets of Newport to get to it. The good news is that it is not much more than a 1/2 mile run to the GI Bridge, if you want to fish there. Snaildarter

As for test, you can usually use whatever is already on the reel. I know people who don't have a problem using everyday 20# green big game. However, if you want to go "advanced" try something 8-12# test. I prefer braid myself (pros/cons 2 this). You can really feel the slightest attacks....however, a tangle or birds nest's can be aggravating............you also dont want to go too light, just in case you get snagged or worse...snapped by a blue/fluke. just my 2 cents.

As for lights...I wouldnt worry....some basic steups you can grab pretty cheap...although, with the numbers of peaople w/ lights I dont think you'll have a problem finding someone to share. Just about everyone on this board would......

Keep ckecking this boards for squid updates.. Many of use live down the street, around the corner....and can give great reoprts....

Happy Squiding..

Tatonka.

No signs of them little squidys yet? C'mon!!! Weather is pretty decent in Boston. A little windy, but hopefully this year will be better then last year. I don't know squids were on spring break last year. I caught no more then 1 cooler.... A very unusual season!

Hopefully it will be a much better season than 08s, Hi everyone <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/beer_mug.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />
