thanks for that i have just emailed them to see if they can get one and how much.. if not i can get one next time in in japan but im always too impatient.. they look great rods 88 grams. i figure if you get a good oen here you dont have many options, pretty much , yamashita, shimano sephia and now the breadens are on the market but they cost alot more here than in japan. eventually the prices will drop here as we have seen with the squid gaff but at the time i got it no one had them here so i imagine same with the other gear.



buying direct from japan is not that hard and you can get the best gear and save some hard earned $$$$.

didn't see one 88gram, the lightest i saw was 91, but thats a $700 rod

i recently got prices from japan for the breaden series and was shocked at the $200 increase on the plane ride here for some.





I'm in complete agreement on the buying stuff from japan, more power to those who can afford to buy tackle at AUS RRP, and kudos to the guys importing and selling the good stuff cheaply. But i'm done buying stuff here when i know i can get it shipped here cheaper. With a few exceptions... peter hugill has some stuff very competitive when you take the shipping time from japan into account and the poor bloke still needs to make a profit..



Japan = range, price, quality... and did i mention the range.



AUS = Reels and rods made in china and malaysia... expensive... bugger all range (some shops here have excellent range)

what do we all think about the berkley egi master...

rocksy i know what you think, i went down to complete angler and they have a few, feel like a nice rod and are cheap.....

I don't think they are bad rod, i have had a look. i think the light stick is 7'6" or 7'9"? with the heavy being 8'4" maybe.

they fill a low cost egi rod void, without being cheap and nasty feeling.

Hey Guys,



My name is Sam i am new to this forum, I am a big time squid fisher. I am from Melbourne and love to travel all over from western port to port Philip bay to fish for squid. On the topic on squid rods i was looking into the smith range on eging. Anyone had some experiences with this rods.? The model that i was after SH-86PS 86 " 4 (± 0.5) 0.6 to 1.5 163g 435mm M. HEAVY FAST. Are they shops around Melbourne that sell this particular brand.?

Smith make a killer rod in general, but i've not been able able to find any reviews or anything on their Egi rods.

thats is an insanely heavy egi rod, minimum for No 4 jigs +/- .5

163grams just for the rod, judging by the price they go for in japan i'd say $550-650 here



You'd probably pick up a breaden or Graphite leader rod for the same size jigs and same line specs and length, but lighter in weight and around the same price if not cheaper.

The smith family of egi rods are pretty heavy duty looking at their website, i'm sure there is nothing they can't handle.

There are way better egging rods available.

calamaretti rods a boring when it comes to jig action.Just remember companies make eggi rods for there particular jigs to work with maximum effect.

When you really want to get into egging like the Japanese it will blow your mind.

I have been squidding for a few years now from the stones and the results are mind boggling in squid captures.

I use an evergreen poseidon squidlaw 9ft', A breaden squid wicked game Shallow 9ft'. and a Smiths squidhearts sh78ss

reels also make a difference. hyper digigear reels a less prone to damage eg. main gear pinion gears,handles , spools get destroyed very quickly.I have destroyed. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wub.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':rod:' /> a daiwa luvias in 3 months, shimano twin power 6 months, daiwa tierra 1 month.maingears handles etc.

all this from the violent jigging slamming back onto the reels.
