What tackle stores on the southside of Brisbane sell "EGI" rods ?
What would be a good rod for landbased squiding ?
What other model of rod by the popular rod makers would be a suitable alternative to a "EGI" rod ?

There are lots of Japanese Egi rods but I have only seen 2 on sale in Melb.
Gladiator approx $200. Not sure is good or not. Look s and feels okay but never used it.

I have the Yamashita Naory and it is really a great rod. There are three types / sizes depending on what Jig size you uses. I got the middle one and very satisified. Expensive but makes a difference on casting and once you hook up it is a has a lot more flexiability to ensure that you do not rip the jig though the squid loosing it.

you've seen what I use , all you need is something that will absorb the lunges when a squid tries to bolt and a light drag helps too....sort of a whiting rod you could say.
plenty of that sort of stuff around the southside shops.

Ended up using a 8 foot Wilson Live fibre that I usually use for whiting out on the bay with a small Diawa spinning reel that I use to throw small lures and soft plastics..
It is probably a bit too much of a fast taper rod and I may pull the jig out of a couple of squid but I set the drag very light.
Will stick with it for the moment and re-think a new rod at the beginning of the season next year.

The rod I use is a daiwa exceler and the reel is a shimano sienna 1000 loaded up with 10 pound braid with 12 pound flurocarbon leader and it works a treat.

the only place in bris that i know of that stocks dedicated eging rods is fish head over at viccy point they have the yamashita naory range which are very very nice, but imho a bit too light, as they are designeed for the naory range of jigs which are aimed at arrow squid. i did speak to twh over a yr ago and they said they were looking at getting the nories "eging program" rods and wanted 900+ (i still havent seen them there since about a yr ago)
if you have the funds avail and can wait then deff order something from o/s. such as majorcraft raycal or graphiteleader/olympic calamaretti. ive owned the raycal (sold to friend now) and currently using the calamaretti and they are both awesome and deff worth the money. anything from both thoses brands are awesome.

I would not use that much in fuel in my boat in a year.

Hi all,
I use my old Abu Garcia Ambassodor 5000 reel and my 7' bass rod Daiwa strike Sk-463 which seems to work well enough - don't know the price today but 20 years back they were a pittance!

just a heads up i know for sure that fish head have a shipment o BREADEN jigs and poss Rods as well, not sure which ones will be in though, but BREADEN SQUID WICKED GAME rods look freaking sweet and speaking to my friend in HK they are deff worth it. dont know how much they will be though.

id buy one just not from here hahahaah. i heard the breaden egis are $27, also heard they may be getting in the megabass xor caiyen but from my friends in hk have told me the build quality is not comparable to their other gear.

Squid Wicked series are in the 40,000 range over here so looking at upwards of $600 before mark up etc

If someone wants to get into low price rods, ie from $250- $399. Let your local tackle shop know that there is a distributor of such rods. do you knwo how or where you can get a Calamaretti ei rod from and how the hell do you choose. When then team from Yamashita came to australia they were using Calamaretti rods.
