Newport Ri 2010 Squid Season
i already golf, but not nearly as good as i fish...

i'm not trying to stop people from telling others where to go, just do it in private. again, i'm sure you dont want people who dont participate in our forum to turn up where you fish and youre left out in the cold...

we all know the time of year they come (generally), we know how to get them (generally), we know they're in the bay... if you want to squid, go for it. do some homework, read the past few years forum threads, find a dock, any dock get some lines in and go for it, trial and error is the best way to learn. no one should be gifted a prime location for signing up on a message board. knowledge, advice, gear, technique, lights, power are all fair game....

it's happened to me and others on this bored who i have met before. it sucks.

thats all i'm gonna say on that....

so on that note Conditions at NWPR1 as of

(8:18 pm EDT on 04/22/2010)

Water Temperature (WTMP): 53.2 °F

i dont think the squid got the message....

i went around to a couple spots early this evening couple out giving it a go, empty buckets, lots of bait....

any day now
True I have spots that no one knows about where I crush them every year. People think the squid just hang out in Newport like the tourists but I can catch them all the way to the Providence Hurricane barrier

Last year I mostly fished the Jamestown shore with limited success. My timing was poor and I didn't get as many trips in as prior years. This year my boat's going in Narragansett Bay but further North (East Greenwich Cove). Do the squid move up that far into the Bay? It may only be a few miles away but the conditions are very different. I'm wondering if the combination of structure, tidal flow, shallow water and access to and from open water make the lower end of Narragansett Bay and similar areas a unique environment.
I see Kink squid is already up to his old ways as last year doesnt want to share anything, find it yourself attitude, why do you even post here just go to your secret spots by yourself and let us share the info as this sit in meant to be, that said i went to Goat Island this weekend no squid probable only parking for 6 cars on bridge, i will be happy to tell anyone the best parking spots or other spots to go squidding
this guy again... welcome. you must be pissed over the pats pick last night. so much for "in bill we trust"....

look guy, please share with everyone your spots... i'm sure there are hundreds lurking that would LOVE to beat you to it.

i do my sharing of spots in private, read back again. i'll talk shop with anyone. you're pretty much the only one i'm not willing to help at this point. don't pm me with your obscenity filled rants and unintelligible banter. do me a favor homes, don't address anything to me, don't type my name into the forum and i'll do the same for you....

i've already said too much after i said i wasn't going to go down this road again....

i've fished in NK, EG, and Gansett all with mixed success (notice i didn't name specific spots). some nights better then others. i'm sure you could go as far north as warwick before the water gets too warm for them. although the previous poster said he/she has caught the as far north as prov.... i'm sure anywhere anywhere there is a dock in the mid bay range there will be squid as long as the tides isn't whippping through an area making the current too strong

1tym, very tantalizing.... a picture of a bucket of ink.... looks like more ink than you'd get from one squid...but the ink does not go very far up the sides. tantalalizing indeed. Nice job getting on the board.

To be honest Im not in favor of spot burning either. Considering in past years up to 100k have viewed our forum post. I have no problem giving spot tips to those I know personally or have contributed to our board, but in private. The thing is, many locations are sorta privileged and if some random person jeopardized it, could be the end of that spot for good. Have seen this happen far to much over the years. And believe me, once its gone, its gone. The comment regarding the squid in the upper bay is absolutely correct. The squid will work up the bay to brood. I recommend people take a ride thru Warren/Barrington during the run and keep an eye out for fisherman. Also, if not driving and scouting I've found many great general fishing locations just by pulling up Google maps/earth and scanning the coastline of the bay. You'll be surprised what you may find. (i.e., look for jetty's, bridges, parks, ect.)

Its sounds like everyone else on the board is as eager as I am to get started. Wishing good squid fortune to all! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/clover.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> Caught two good sized Tog over the weekend. no squid. Going to try again this weekend. Will report anything caught.

I used to get squid all the way up to fall river at the battle ship and off the hurricane barrier in Providence. There is so many docks in Fall river area where no one fishes.

true, but.. if you look closely.. there are very destinctive lines going up the sides when you remove squid from a bucket. I didnt fill a bucket.. but theres more than two lines going up the side <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />.

well I had some errands and family matters to attend.. but my networks are letting me know that they are finding similar results with schools of squid.. some small some large.

Some are finding good fishing in shore.. not even in newport.. or RI for that matter. Catch em up!

I offered, but you had too many errands or work or some such thing....

We got 28 cod and a couple of pollock. Not bad for a 5AM start followed by electrical problems that kept us on land til 9, starting out for the bank in the biggest seas of the day with the fishfinder not recognizing the transducer. What would have been an awful day turned out excellent. beautiful T shirt weather surrounded by whales and more than enough fillets for all the requests.

I think I will be headed up later part of the week.

It will be good to see them again.

C'mon guys. Does anyone really believe its possible to burn the goat island bridge as a spot? Or any piece of public dock or shoreline in that area? When the squid are in, there are no quiet spots. It's combat fishing. You can't burn a spot that has been so widely discussed for so long.

I have a boat in point judith, so I can always find a quiet place to fish and usually it's right off the beach. Outside of general areas that are seeing action, I'm mostly looking for squid sightings and anything useful in a general sense - like try turning out the lights if you aren't catching.

Speaking of which, has anyone heard if they have shown up at the islands yet? I've always wanted to take a run over there and give it a try.

Google map use it. that is where i find most of my fishing spots. Along with just driving around and turning onto streets i normally wouldn't, just to see if there is a nice place to fish.
