I've been a guest on this site for a while. Today I signed up!
FYI: Worm hatch started very early. Stripers all over them. All signs are for early squid run.

I'm glad to hear that the catch is finally starting! I feel like i've been waiting forever for the 2010 squid season to begin! Hello again to everyone i've had the pleasure of fishing with in past years (pearldiver, 1tym, etc.), and best of luck to everyone this spring. I hope to see you all down on the bridge!

No worry, I carry my NY 2010 saltwater license, a reciprocal state.

RI will honor any license from any state that also honors RI licenses. Connecticut and New York licenses are reciprocal, and so they apply in RI waters.
C'mon guys. Does anyone really believe its possible to burn the goat island bridge as a spot? Or any piece of public dock or shoreline in that area? When the squid are in, there are no quiet spots. It's combat fishing. You can't burn a spot that has been so widely discussed for so long.
I have a boat in point judith, so I can always find a quiet place to fish and usually it's right off the beach. Outside of general areas that are seeing action, I'm mostly looking for squid sightings and anything useful in a general sense - like try turning out the lights if you aren't catching.
Speaking of which, has anyone heard if they have shown up at the islands yet? I've always wanted to take a run over there and give it a try.
your right GI can't be burned.... it's way past that stage. but other spots certainly can. whether its a squid spot, fluke, cod, tuna....
combat fishing?? seriously?....
anywho... the rain keep my crew in the last couple days. it's too early in the season to sit in the rain for a half dozen to a dozen tubes. and my boats are still on trailers for another week to 2...
gonna give it a go after my softball game wed night...
cheers.

I'm also thinking of Wed though I'm not sure I'm making the trip to RI. Now tht the B's are on to the next round I've got the nite off.

Friday night is the first chance I'll get this season. The boat doesn't hit the water for a couple more weeks <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' /> so I'll be on dry land somewhere. With the weather warming and the moon running full this week I'm hoping for a cooler full. Last year about this time my son and I got to the water around 7:00 PM and caught and released shad for about two hours until it got dark then caught squid (though not a whole lot) for a couple hours after that. A great trip and good time with my boy. That's what I'm hoping for this time.

When I mentioned the start of the squid run to my now 16 y/o daughter this am I got the "so" look. Hopefully my son will react more enthusiastically.

Hoping the weather is good for mother's day weekend. I won't be able to get there until the 9-12th. I hope squid are co-operative at that time too! I know the moon won't be there but gonna shoot it anyway!

HA! Isn't that the way it goes? If I even look in the general direction of my 16 year old daughter I get the "so" look. She can roll her eyes at me so hard you'd swear you can hear it. Thank God they grow out of it. My 26 year old daughter is my baby girl again and my boys now like to spend time with dad once in a while so it gets better.

i am a newbie to this sight. i have gone squid fishing maybe 3x in my whole life without any success. need to learn as much as possible so i can lift this skunk hat off my head. is anyone out there willing to take a newbie on a successful squid trip so i can figure out what i am doing wrong. i watch the people over at goat island catching but i always seem to have the wrong stuff.
thanks

It's about time i joined the site.I use to fish the GI bridge back in the day, about 18 years ago and it was a blast.I still remember a guy getting blasted in the face with some ink..seems he was swearing in a foreign language..his buddies were laughing and i almost busted a gut lmao.
I've been lurking mostly to enjoy the posts and re-live good fishing days past.I will get my gear together and head down Thursday nite to see and hope to catch a few.
