G'day all just wondering if any of you have launched off Flinders? And up to what size boat you have launched off the sand there? Because i suppose the only way anyone is going to get on to any decent squid is motoring a 100 meters off the end of the pier. Or else we have to battle with a lot of fishing lines.

hey guys,
i was at flinders last night and agree with what FISHY said above. i only managed one squid about half a kilo but a guy next to me got two about 1 kg. another guy dropped about 4 big squid and caught one about 1 kg. there was no fish around. just a few tiny leatherjackets and some toadies. i was told by a diver he saw a few weedy seadragons which would have been pretty cool. cheers, glen

Hi guys,
Glen it's good you got at least one squid, I was at Flinders Sunday morning and didn't see much caught off the pier. We went out in the tinny and caught 18 between 3 of us fishing from 5am-10am, they ranged from 0.5-3.5kg (no jokes, several had hoods well over 50cm!). All the bigguns were caught on garfish and salmon on baited jigs, the little fellas on Yo Zuri 3.0s and a blue 2.5 shrimphunter. Photos coming soon! Cheers Jaz

Fished in 35ft water out from Flinders, I have never caught so many squid in a session, on the 30th fished from 6am to 10.30am caught 6 squid @ 500 - 2.0kg,
fished afternoon for 2 @1.0kg. Fished Sunday afternoon for 18 @ 500 - 2.5kg and lost a big one to a bloody seal that then went and threw the squid in front of us, then dissappered. Monday we fished from 8.00am to 12.30pm this was the amazing day, we caught 35 @250g - 3.5kg they took anything you put in the water, it didn't matter silver whiting, plastic jigs what ever.

Last Friday left Melb. with the rain deciding to brave it out at Flinders. Only one chap when i arrived at 6pm and he left shortly afterwards. Yes I had the entire pier to myself. With a strong south west I picked the best corner of the jetty for the wind and settled in for hopefully a good peaceful nights fishing.
After having the jetty to myself for all of 10 minutes two blokes arrived went to the lower landing and decided they would throw under my lines. About the same time 4 other blokes arrived with about 16 lines and started throw lines to my left over the guys on the landing. The other guys came to my right started throwing many lines pretty much over mine. With the wind and the current it was pretty much a complete disaster. Virtually all the lines were left unattended with them drifting across. It was absolutely impossible to bring 1 line in without tangling up with two others. Two others arrived later and one of them asked me if it was ok to throw a couple of lines between mine. By that stage I was ready to kill. Even though I planned to stay late I was pretty much forced to leave early around 10pm. It doesn't seem that there is any ettiquette in terms of reserving a section of jetty at Flinders especially with fishermen of a certain background. For the record 5 squid, apart from one small one all around 1.5 kg. Previous trip to Flinders two weeks earlier had a very good one. Again apart from one small one 7 others averaging about 2kg. Have got a fridge full of the stuff now so I will giving it a rest for a while.

Know what you mean Snapperman, there are some shocking manners displayed at Flinders pier. You really have to fight to keep your spot.
Maybe next time eat a heap of baked beans before you go, and let nature take its course...maybe then you wont be troubled by people fishing too close <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol' />
i think it is ###### when people casts over the landings ! stuffs it up for every one trying to fish on the landing SHAME ON YOU!
