Went to Flinders Pier this Morn, fished from 6am - 2pm, incoming tide.
Only ones there till 8am. Got 4, 2 very large and 2 medium about 2 hours after the turn of the tide. Saw 5 or 6 other squid caught by others later in the day so there was a few around. Had a fair few follow ups but they seemed a bit shy at times. Awesome weather once the sun came up. Got one on a baited jig and the others on silver grey and red gold imitations. Cheers, nala

what a long ass drive !
got 4, 1 big one on first cast which got us very fired up. crappiest day for fishing as the wind was blowing a gale against us, could barely cast. flinders pier is very high, i fished under the stairs at the end. Lost 4 of my favorite jigs <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

G'day all,
As usual I try to post after each time I go squidding. Went to Flinders on SAt morn 7th Aug. Got there 6am. Rising tide. Water fairly murky. The murkiest (is that a word?) I have seen it. Anyway fished till 10:30am and got zip. This is only the second time I have come home empty handed from flinders. Saw a few grass whiting being caught. By 8am there would have been 20+ fisherpeople on the jetty and I did not see one squid brought in. Cheers, nala

Bummer about your jigs, I might have to get the snorkel out and have a peek around, mabey I can find them. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />

Squidboi,
try checking the Flinders report here: http://www.squidfish.net/forums/index.php?...amp;#entry20380 this is the link to the last, most recent post. Just scroll back from there to see past posts. Flinders is my has been my preferred spot for over a year now. I very rarely come home empty handed. My mate was there last monday during the day and only got 2 but they were a decent size. When the tide is up you can fish pretty much the entire length of the pier from about the second light pole onwards. I have seen calamari brought in right along the whole pier. I have also seen a couple of BIG occys pulled up as well but I think getting one of them would be a pretty lucky day out. Lots of people use baited jigs suspended under a float. Usually baited with silver whiting or grass whiting caught from the pier. I usually put out a baited jig or two and then flick around some imitation prawn jigs like yamashitas or yozuri's. Make sure you have a net on a rope or a long squid gaff as it is a long drop to the water most of the time, and the calamari at Flinders tend to be too big to just haul up with your rod. They just fall off. Hope this helps. Cheers, nala |
