I'm going out on the helen h on mothers day for my first squid fishing ever. i have a couple yo zuri pink prawn style jigs but really have no clue as to what kind of rod to bring or what size sinkers,or whatnot. i was thinking i would just bring my tica mod-fast action rod rated for 0.5-2.0 oz with a shimano 3500 baitrunner reel. will that be sufficient or do you think an 8 foot rood is to big for a party boat?
thanks,ty

I generally use the lightest stuff I have. Freshwater rods with 10# test. As long as those rods are sensitive enough to feel the squid "reach out" I've had to use heavier rods at certain times but I allways go back to the lightest one I have on the boat. Good luck out there. The HH is a top notch boat with a great captain and crew. Have fun!! Your weight will depend on the conditions. But generally we are using 1/2 - 1 1/2 ounces.
