Kinda getting bummed out about the vast number of people using this forum and their activity/interest other than chasing reports.

I have found much help from this forum but very disappointed with the turn out of active members and other peoples greed. Put together the vast number of people who trash the place or make it unpleasant for others. Add the racisim and narcissism in the mix with all the other fishermen out there.. its a bit of a downer how people can no work together or help each other with catching a couple of trash fish. yes. squid is trash.

Mind you I have met quite a few people on the docks of jamestown and newport.. I have opened up northern new englanders to new grounds of fishing. Yes I have been a bit selfish in selecting information i leak out to the public. But really if you asked me personally i probably told you exactly where i went. Its funny. I was hoping get a little internet crowd/crew together to work together in getting information on squid actions and where abouts. I know its tough economy out there but this is just 5 minutes of time.. is it really not worth it? if it is why bother to continue on getting information.

I do not post my empty buckets or coolers. I do not brag about my failed outings. It took many trys and many resources to get to where I have gotten. I have my own network for dialing on squid and fish but no one can beat the vastness of the internet. I tried to help others as well as myself, but unfortunately with continued greed by the masses I feel but overwhelmed. We are not here to increase the crowds or the trash or crap we already endure. We are here to help each other and lend a hand.

So with this. I bring you possibily the last good information for all you report chasers. NORTHERN GROUNDS SQUID AGLORE. buckets of large squid <20miles from BOSTON, mA USA.

hi 1tym,

thanks for sharing your thoughts. it is pretty common for the large majority of forum members to not say very much (or anything). that holds true for lots of forums...not just fishing ones. that is not something that particularly concerns me. that is just how things work.

there can be many reasons why people don't contribute:

1) computer skills are lacking - they don't know how to create an account (though we have instructions here)

2) scared to create an account for a myriad of reasons (e.g. what if get spam etc??)

3) they don't think they have anything worth saying (actually they probably do!)

4) they are shy and/or like to stay out of the lime light

5) and as you have indicated...some are a bit selfish and don't want to share the knowledge they have. that's life!

if anyone reading this falls within categories 1-4 please note that we would love to hear from you.

please sign up and become a member here.

once you sign up don't forget to check your email inbox and validate your squidfish account (which is basically just clicking on a link in the email we send out). it is not too hard. if there is any trouble just send me an email (see squidfish email below).

after signing up, if you are not sure where to start... why not introduce yourself in the intro section.

if you have any questions ask us and maybe we can help.

if you go squid fishing please let us know if you caught anything. even a zero catch report is useful as it will save people time in going to bad spots.

all the best,

glen

All very good points.

Personally, I have a new born and have not gotten out as much as I would have liked - for now.

In addition to the points you made, I have found that with the closing of the GI bridge, the pressure on other spots has increased dramatically. With that extra pressure has highlighted people's lack of respect, manners or consideration - both for their fellow angler and the spots themselves.

I actually like the crowds. It helps me get to mix with people I never would have fished side by side with ever. Some of my most memorable nights squidding have been nixt to someone who I couldn't understand and they couldn't understand me. We had a ball together. We laughed at each others tangles and ohhhh and ahhhh'ed at each others catches. We have compared rigging and traded jigs. Hell, I even sold one of my carts to an older woman because her back was hurting - or so she told me. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

I hate trash. There is no ned for it. Pick up after yourself. I do that and try to do more.

respect a little distance between people. Don't over cast them.

It is getting to the point where I feel like I have to put up a little perimeter around me with buckets and gas cans just to have a little room. Even then, people take my spot after I turn away for a moment - and I do mean a moment. I used to be intimidated by this sort of behavior. To be candid, I am the minority in this game and somehow that affected how I acted and stood up for my fishing.

Now, I just look at the person, as them if they mind - with a little authority, and have never had anyone challenge me. I think this is because they know, they have overstepped their bounds by taking my spot. The people who fish right next to me, and ask if they can borrow some of my light, they are the ones I have the best time with that night. They are the ones that this forum was mean to help and get help from.

I honestly don't have any solutions, but agree that if the grounds don't get cleaned up, they will eventually be shut down. That would be a shame - simply because it is so preventable.

I am bringing a garbage back with me tonight.

it does not matter where you go there are allways some R-soles who dont give a ###### and leave rubish all over the place for some one else to pick up.

it spoils it for the people who do care and every one else pays the price in the end.

make squid your friend...then bag them

i hear ya 1tym, you're preaching to the choir here.

i was just on my way in to post that i thought this year was slow in the posting dept. imo.

IMO, The forum has been dead this year. I have spoken with a few of the past major contributors and people have told me one of three things. Too busy in their life's, bad year for catching squid, or, just too many people on the forum and/or done with the BS from the forum. I actually got more information from private messaging this year than I got from the board. I think its just a off year in general. Plus, the construction work being done on the GI bridge hasn't helped. Cheers, Tatonka

Single handedly this site has introduced me to a fantastic world of fishing, squid fishing! I have received great advice and solid feed back to the queries I have posted and by way of pay back I always post, as best I can, a fair and accurate report for the comunity on my squidding sessions.

Regretably, as an open forum you will always find some that just don't get it. Don't have the same respect or passion that you or i might, either on line or on the pier or water. That's their loss in the end I say, but it will end up affecting us all.

I have never had any issues either on this site or on the piers in Australia with over crowding or some of the problems you mention.

But, compared to some fishing forums, Squidfish, IMO, is a pretty welcoming place, although I only check the Aussie threads admittedly.

Keep posting, keep the reports comming and ignore the idiots and fools!

Cheers,

nala

You gotta remember.. I am complaining about my fellow Americans.. I love Aussies.. i wish i could go back and stay. I have never been in country where it was so easy going and enjoyable. It as if people actually enjoyed life with each other and not their materialistic goods. INCLUDES SQUID.

Cheers to people like you mate..
