Nets for squid fishing
#1
Hello all,

I Have a gaff for fishing from the rocks and piers but it's abit hard to use at my new spots.

Do any of you have a good net, looking for around 3-5 mtrs when open and light.

Please let me know.

thankyou

Hi Mason,

you say you are looking for 3-5 metres when open? Do you mean diameter? or length of rope? 3-5 metres diameter is a big net, sound like a cast net almost.

I use a hoop net about 60cm in diameter on a long rope to drop down to claim my catch. Works well.... most of the time. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />

You can pick up hoop nets cheap from any tackle store, or some times local markets. Rays Outdoors definitely stock them, I saw them there last week. I also saw a guy who used an old bicycle rim with net tied around it with a weight in the bottom. The problem with the nets are that they drop straight down. I have made an extension pole that I can hold out over the side of the pier or rocks to get me away from snags. I will post a pic in the next day or so for you to check out, I think the extension pole might work for you.

hi guys, i was lucky enough to have a nice telescopic net/squid gaff bought back from japan. its made from the same material as most rods and telescopically folds downto just under a meter in length. when fully extended it tapers to a thinner but sturdy end/tip which has a threaded hole where you can screw in your squid gaff which looks like a climbing gaff with multiple sharp tip prong arms, or the collapsable net which also screws in. you can easily make one from several threaded poles and attach a large net to it but if you're willing to look around , and order one from overseas online, theres some very high quality tried and tested net/gaff rigs around.

Mason, Auto King Diachi the same company that make most of the squid gaffs have net heads that can be put on the end of the extendable gaff head, check out the normal overseas egi shops they will have plenty. No one in Australia has them yet in stock
