Rattle or Not?
#1
Hey everyone first post and great site just wondering everyones thoughts on rattles in the jigs, alot of my smaller jigs have them (1.8-2.5) and i used to think if they didnt have a rattle they wouldnt be that good, but one fella i was speaking to said he reakons the rattle scares the squid but alot of the japanese jigs(harimutsu, megabass) i buy these days do not have rattles and they also work just as well, size is bigger as well (2.9-3.5) what everyones thoughts on this. i have one jig with a rattle and never got a squid on it but i must say i only used it for a few casts.

it does increase casting distance.....

i think a rattle would scare off squid but at same time they dont hunt by listening.

same as they dont hunt by smell.

its all with their eyes.

a injured baitfish or prawn makes a high pitch noise when in distress not a click noise like a rattle.

i have read that the rattle does make the same sound as a prawn someone on here uses them and recons there good.

i persoanly dont realy mind, wen im buying a jig i look for size sink rate and appearance. but it does add weight which is good for casting. which jigs are u talking bout? are u talking bout the diawa emeraldas???

cheers

yeah i few guys like them.

same as that scent.

im sure anything will work when the squid are on the bite.

you will know they work when your the only one catching squid while everyone else is trying to work out what your doing....

yeah mate all the daiwas seem to have the rattles havent caught on the new emeraldes but then again havent used it that much when other jigs are working, interesting on the scent as well, couple of my mates have the egi and glow max i refused to buy it just cause of the price and havent noticed them getting any better catch rates using the stuff sometimes ill outfish them so i dont go much on the scent thing. only the older daiwas have the rattle, i got about 5 of the new dartmax range and no rattle but great dart and pattern, i have go tmost my squid on them since i got them.

yeah i have the normla scent, so do a few other guys i know.

only ever used it when water was dirty and thats about it.

i think scent will help when squid are shy and have a feel of jig but shy away..
