Newport Ri 2011 Squid Season
d

They started to bloom a couple of days ago..

My guess squid will be here April 28th 14:31..so at that exact time someone go wet their lines.

I would say about the end of this week, temp should be perfect by then.
My guess is around May 5th. May 1st will be the start of the new moon phase and the squid should start to flood to the reefs by then. Gas isn't cheap but if you have ink fever than it won't matter.
I don't know if it's a good sign or not? The RI commercial catch seems to be way up this year
Check out this EBay store for squid jigs. I just received an order. The seem to be pretty decent. After the convesion from AUD to USD, it cost me $2.50 per jig (16 total in lot). I got them in eight days.

I tried GI bridge on Sunday nite. Nothing!
Is anyone going this weekend to gi bridge?

Hey SuzySquid,

I fished with you last year! You shared your margarita's with me <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> (without alcohol of cours <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/innocent.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Angel' /> ) Cant wait to hang out again. You see me around on my scooter.

Been fishing last week on Goat Island, no luck, but was just nice to be out in the sun.

Take care, I post something if its busy on GI and catch any <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup2.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':thumbsup2:' />

Can't wait, I should try it tomorrow. I drove by yesterday, nobody around.
Good luck to anyone trying this weekend....ink it up

If I were a bettin'man, I'd wager that tonight will produce the first squd of the 2011 season.
Anyone here ever tried one of these jigs? Looks like they should attract a lot of squids.

I'm thinking of taking the boat out and trying sat night or sun night. Just wondering if I should putt all the way to newport, or if they will be along the RI beaches near point judith. I much prefer the beaches if the seas are kindly, it's a much shorter run.

Any thoughts on where the early squids might show first?
Howdy Squidfiends, Im going to try it later in the evening. Very nice weather <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' /> today. I keep you posted about the squid and if there are other people around.

I was out there for almost two hours at Jamestown. Me and my buddies caught zero <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' /> ....BUT one guy that was there for a couple of hours did catch one <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' /> . So pretty soon they will be running thick.

When it comes to squid e pluribus unum.

If my trucks rear end wasn't in the air with an open differential I'd be ther now.

Ladies and Gentlemen, start your engines for the floodlights, the show has started.

I was out there last night, not at GI, but close and saw a pod come through, my friend got two.

After the squid came through we didn't see any again, they seem to be coming around, but not staying yet, don't know if it has anything to do with not having much bait.

The water temperature at the time when I saw them was 52.7 F.

I will be back again tonight to check it out.
I took the Jenny Lee and a few friends out last night to NPT harbor and few other spots. No squid. Nothing on the fish finder either.

We did try out a new HydroGlow lamp I bought last year and it is the bomb.

Here is a video of it:

The water temp was between 53 and 54 South of Prudence Island the entire night.

Oh - BTW - there are SERIOUS rock ledges under the NPT Bridge. doh!
