Newport Ri 2011 Squid Season
Planning on going to GI tonight. The last time I was there was 10+ years ago when someone took me when I was still in HS. Anyone one else heading out tonight to give it a try? Coming from Boston and departing around 7-8pm.
Was at G.I last night for about 2 hrs..Around 9pm I dropped my light down. Right away me and my buddy caught a quick 20 large size squid..Then our propane ran out <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> , we changed it and thats when the squid never showed their face again.

Not to bad 20 squids in 10mins..Next time I won't use the same propane tank from last year.

[/quote] Haven't caught too many yet? The few were big 15-22 inches! A few more days and it will pick up with this warm southwesterly wind.

No..I was on the dock on the left side of the bridge..The wind was a bit strong and it made it cold. The GI bridge gave us cover from the wind standing on the dock. No one noticed us there since we was all dressed in black.

I'll be there later tonight but I'll be on the wall, unless it's windy again.
I also forgot to mention something in my report from last night..

I was able to score a bag full of keeper beer cans and water bottles..about 12 cans and 3 bottles..boy those trash can put up a fight..... <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Pick up your trash or any trash you see people. Would hate to see GI closed down because of it.
Put in 5 hours of work today at GI and JT, only one squid to show for it.
Last nite was aboard Francis Fleet for their first nite sqyudding. Total people on board was around 12 or less.

We HIT the JACKPOT last nite. My friend and I filled our buckets.

Squid invasion has started!!!!
Went last night at the comm. Pier, I got there at 930 and a couple buddies of mine already had more than a bucket and a half. I left around 2 and the 4 of u's had filled 2.5 buckets, I caught 15, but they were giant. Theyre hereee <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

Hope fully there is squid when I get there.
went last night, got about 10lbs. Was there from 930 to about 11, saw more squid coming towards the surface, with a few small sheets coming through. They were pretty picky, sometimes only hitting the jigs when they were sitting still.

Went over the weekend, Friday and Saturday night. Caught nothing on Friday night and about a dozen on Saturday night. People were catching all along the bridge.

Sport? These are squid. While I can sympathize with your outlook, I simply don't hold it. I do enjoy the simple dumb pleasure of jigging for them, but if I see a school I'd net them in a heartbeat. They are too valuable to me as bait and dinner to mess around just having fun. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

As long as its legal, and possible, I'm all for it.

I do not fish for sport. I fish to catch! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

I have dragged 3 stripers on 150lb braid with umbrella rigs. Cull what I want and head home early! With gas prices up nowadays fishing for "sport" isn't feasable! Just like Pokemons... Gotta catchem' all!
No new reports? I guess everyone must be filling their buckets..Wish I didn't have to work for a living. If only somehow my bank account refills itself everyday with $100,000.
Too windy to fish the past few days, hope to head out tomorrow or Thursday if the wind ever lays down.

The 10 day forecast looks to be windy/wet and cold. April-ish weather.
Guys, this is awesome!! I'm so new to squidding, that I haven't even gone yet. But I feel like I'm already addicted by reading the posts I've found here. I was initially interested in trying out for fluke bait and maybe a meal if luck would have it. I was thinking about going very early Sunday morning, as I'm going flukeing with some friends out of Point Judith on Sunday morning. ( I was gonna surprise the fellas with a few squid if I'm lucky) Is anyone going out at that time that I might be able to pick up a few pointers and spots from? I live in MA, so I'm not out fishing nearly as much as I would like, but certainly no beginner in saltwater action. Any help or info would be GREATLY appreciated.
