Hello! Welcome to the forum. First you need to aquire some squid jigs. Check your local bait shop. You can also pick up some yo-zuri jigs at Benny's. Pink and green jigs work best IMO. If your heading out at night or early morning, I recomend a light. A good starter would be a coleman camping latern that can be hung near the water. However, you will find many people are willing to share there lights if you asked nicely. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup2.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':thumbsup2:' /> There are many places to catch squid. A well known popular spot is the Goat Island Causway in Newport, RI. Me and some friends will be out fishing sat. night. When where you planing to go? One tip on a Coleman lantern. I painted the undeside of the top with a bright white grill paint. It adds more reflective light downward. Welcome TinPig and happy squidding!

Hi Guys, dang I can't believe it's that time of year already! What's the latest report? I'm thinking my first trip will be tomorrow night. I don't have high hopes cause I'll miss the incoming tide and the winds will be from the N/NE. What is up with all this wind huh??? Hi Folks,
I'm new to this site though not a newbie to squidding.
Good tips on reflective white paint, ejburbank. Could you so kind to share the type of paint that you have used successfully?
Also, seemed like the squids were relatively big in past weekend and I've had good success with blue and green, rather thatn hte traditionally hot pink. No idea if it was due to the squid size. Lastly, I did tried the #1 size jigs (1") and no hit at all. Again, it might have been due to the realtively big squid size.
Any thoughts?

if you're in NK head down to the wally world and pick up a propane coleman lantern. 25 bucks or so when its said and done. got mine there a few years back and they're still rockin'. just take care of them. other then that all i can suggest is a genny and some flood lights. hanging a maglite flashlight just isnt going to cut it.

Rustoleum makes a paint for gas grills and other high heat items.
You can get it at The Home Depot or Lowe's.
There are other brands as well.
Just make sure it is for high heat.

Depends on the light and power. Lanterns tend to work best and are the most cost effective. Although, I have seen people hook up portable batteries in the past and use high powered spotlights. Regarding the jigs come by and say hello. I run two big orange lights along the wall. You can also send a post/message on our Facebook group "Squidfish RI" and we can arrange something. I can get on my smartphone.

Make sure you stay bundle up... It's April weather!!! Went Tautog fishing today and it was howling all morning. I expect the same if not worst for the nights.

April weather does freaking suck..I can stand the cold and the rain. But I hate fishing with the wind blowing in my face.
Tonights forcast the wind is going to die down a bit to about 6-9mph. That's not to bad compared to the daytime wind being 13mph+.
I'll be heading out tonight after work. Going to try a place I scoped out on google map. If things are not going to well. I'll make a trip to the honey hole(GI).
Squidman, how did you do on the togs? I tried earlier in the season but no luck. I haven't gone back to try it again since squid and fluke fishing is heating up.

Did pretty well at Tiverton... Got our limit quck during the slack tide at the broken bridge from boat. It sucks to fish there from shore as you're snag prone.
Did the bay today and only got 3 between the 2 of us. Not bad, then again... not great! The trick is to use Asian crabs as the fish are spawning and their mouths are a little south. Worms work good too. just got back from GI... fished from 7 until 11... i was at the bridge in between the 1st and 2nd light post... i caught 3... my friends caught about a dozen each... others were doing better... overall there were several small spurts... no one was killing them... the squid seem to prefer the pink and blue jigs... i saw the majority caught on yo-zuri... i'll probably try jamestown tomorrow night... <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />

Was at GI bridge from 11pm till 3:30am. Between me and my buddy close to half a bucket. It died for like 1hr for us around 1am, but picked back up. Was hitting our pink and blue 1.5-2.5 size jigs. Medium to large tubes.
Time for me to go to bed worked 10hrs and went straight to fishing..I'll be around Newport later tonight(I think).
PS: PICK UP YOUR TRASH!!I yelled at group of people when I made my first stop at Ft Adams. They gave me that I don't understand look, as they was leaving. Till I threw their empty coffee cup at them. One of these days I should follow them home. Then on my trash day dump it all over their lawn. With a note that reads "You left this in Newport, SQUID ON!"

I was out on GI bridge from 9:30-1:00. 4 large tubes. Very slow but some do better than others. There were schools of squid right on the surface between midnight and 1 but none hitting.
