Calamari Classic 2011
#1
Round one of the twice a year event held in Cockburn Sound annually was on the weekend of 26th June,,it was an awesome event and they had to turn people away in the boat section because that filled up pretty quick,,the kayakers and landbased had good numbers attend as well,,the water was murky after Perth recorded its wettest day in 25 years a couple days prior and some Arrow squid were making an appearance in the comp zones, a very rare occurance.

We had over 50 boats skipper but locals and one boat made up of Breaden folks from Japan (tackle and squid jig company) who come out once a year and donate some prizes ($750 breaden rods and more)

Heres a few pictures of the Day,,first up the stars of the show the guys from Japan who beat the Aussies on our home ground,,

Kayak winner got a $1000 fish finder,$500 daiwa Emerada reel and other goodies,,not bad for $10 entry and you get free squid jigs and a bag of goodys when you checkin on the morning as well,,

2nd place in the yaks,Vanessa and her husband have won around $2000 worth of rods over the past year ,she won a Gancraft/gladiator comp last month beating the boats as well,,they have done well seeing they have $10 kmart rods a year ago,lol

After the crowds had gone myself at the front and Daniel and Vanessa chatted about all things squidding,we are joined by Dr Jun who comes out with Breaden each year.

Another succesful tournament,,the squid were hard to tempt but everybody had a great time,,next one is late September if council approval gets thru and other red tape or otherwise Oct/Nov, the Breaden team had a bit of bad luck one put a $800 dollar rod,2500 stella reel and braid and $200 customs handle between his legs while eating some KFC and a squid took off with his outfit a $2000 loss probally,,whoops,,see everybody at the next one hopefully,,

Yes the Breadens are a pretty handy jig,,most of my collection are Harmitsus, Shimano Kiuras and yo zuris but i have been the odd Breaden to my collection,i love the Magna red ones,,

Mind you i would rather have the side scan fish finder tho because its kayak snapper season in Perth starting now and the top guys that catch all the snapper have them.

The Breadens certainly are a good jig some kayak friends have been telling me over a year they love the Egimaru, they have had 2 classic wins and a 2nd place plus wins in smaller comps all in the last year or so, they are a well kept secret i would say we all talk about the other jigs all the time but Breadens don't get a mention much.

I will not be rushing out to buy anymore i have to many different jigs at the moment, probally not as many at most but i am trying not to collect them for collecting sake like some people that have a collecting lure addiction <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' />

But i will consider them further next time i am looking for some jigs, they are well made and work.

My favourite jigs this year have been the Shimao Kieura in white and a green Yo zuri both in 2.5 but from now on i am only going to use 3.0,seems a better size suited to local conditions.

Yes its well worth the run up from Bunbury or Busselton its a great morning out ,,we were hopeing for a Busselton round but theres to much red tape and expense so it will be staying in the metro area, folks in the south west will need to book straight away tho because they turned 25 boats away,,they only take 50,,plenty of room for landbased or kayaks tho,,
