I've never used swivels, never had a problem.
At night I tie the jig direct to my main line (braid) and during the day to flurocarbon leader, again without a swivel.
I'm sure others can post more detail about the pro/cons of swivel use.

Hi Ojingo,
The use of a swivel theoretically is to reduce line twist. But with the addition of swivels, depending on sizes, it can have an effect on the descend angle and speed of your squid jig.
When I squid, I don't use a swivel, but I do use just a very light snap. This is mainly for the ease in changing jigs.
When to use a snap and when not to use a snap? When fishing in pressurized water (i.e. when squids are shy, scared or when I'm using jigs that are from 1.8 to 2.5), I will usally tie the jig directly onto the FC leader. This is to eliminate the noise with the snap and squid jig nose ring.
Hope it helps <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='
