Chum for Squid?
#1
Hello All,

New to the forum and squid fishing.  I was jigging for macks last weekend and hooked up to 4 squid on my sabiki rig and brought them home for dinner.  Now I'm hooked on squid fishing !

Question:  Do squid respond to chum?  I'm going shark fishing this weekend and was wondering if its worth while casting the squid jig while I'm waiting for a shark to bite.

Also everything I'm reading is showing that squid like light and "shallowish" water.  I caught these guys in over 200' of water but close to the surface.  Should I concentrate on shoals and closer to shore?

Thanks in advance.

Plenty of squid in the deep water, usually or often much larger than the ones we catch inshore from docks and bridges or from boats in 20-40 foot water. If you have a stern light on while shark fishing at night it will attract squid, no chum needed, just drop a squid jig down and see what hits.

Good question though.. would chum help off a dock? I've never done it but have a few frozen Maks in my freezer and will be squidding next week. I will give it a try and let you know
