methods on how to catch squid

hello fellow fishermen. im new to this squid fishing as im from scotland and didnt have the bountifull waters which u aussies possess, ive been reading about this squid jig and that squid jig, can anyone tell me the correct way (if there is indeed one ) on how to bait a squid jig or am i better off with an artificial lure.the discussions have been heated to say the least.im heading over to port kennedy this morning to fish for squid with a bag of frozen fish and a squid jig,ive no float but im armed with a thousand bits of advice on how to catch my salt n peppa squid for dinner.any advice would be helpfull fellas or u couls just come over to port kennedy and have a laugh at my mistakes.il post later on wether i caught anything at all.cheers guys
