Everyone,

This is my two cents. After many years of overfishing for squid in this area, you guys have depleted their population. They have not regenerated fast enough for you greedy people! 20 years a ago, around April and May everyone virtually would get a full bucket..but in recent years there have been more empty trips than good trips! Think about it, there have been thousands of people catching days and nights every year, young squids, mature squids, pregnant squids...millions were killed by you guys! If you check on this forum from previous years, its' been worse and worse of the pattern! Where are the squids ? So all of you, stop hunting them for a few years and they'll repopulate !
It is sad when there is no squid around then everybody becomes marine biologists. Where is the facts, go to the meetings, there are boats who go out all year long and net squid. If we are killing off the population then show us the facts. Just because we have a bad season it is our fault! There are up and down seasons. I am having my 1st bad season in 10 years. When you show me hard data that we are killing off the squid then i will listen. "Just my two cents!!!!"

Ignore the troll. Ongzanoel is only here to get everyone riled up with ignorant posts. If nobody responds to that douchbag, he/she will go away.
A troll? If they were a troll they would have posted a deliberately inflamatory, probably in triplicate. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Now, I'll throw in my amature marine biological opinion. Apparently, offshore guys had one of their best years for squid. Here in the bay, we had the unfortunate cold spell during March with North winds keeping the water too cold at the last full moon. That combined with the warmer offshore waters in the Atlantic has likely pushed the change in squid behavior. That said, these bottom of the food chain animals have the imperrative to breed so they will com in en-masse. The question is when? Given that they are starting to move in and the full moon is coming, this week is the likely answer. We'll find out next week.
Hey ongzanoel maybe your the blame for filling buckets 20 years ago, you really think people fishing off a bridge can can effect the the squid population in the ocean?
I'm not sure the question is when so much as it is where. The world she is a changin. Squid have tails, or mouths, or whatever you call the end that pushes them around.

They may be in, but nobody is saying where they are. The problem with always going to where they were is you don't know when they go somewhere else.

I'm sure the draggers and pinhookers know. They just aren't sharing.

So after all that is anyone catching squid yet .or any thing for that matter
You guys need to check out this website! I just bought 24 squid jigs for $32!!!!

http://m.squid-jigs.com/index.php?page=home
Lots of people fishing GI tonight. Looked in each bucket and cooler. Every one of them was empty at 10 p.m.
And to add to that report, I swung by a couple spots on the Navy base. One guy got one squid at the end of pier 2 after a couple hours of fishing and then nothing after another couple hours.

Guys,

Take it easy, will you? It was only my two cents. What I said was just speculation, OK? Do you guys think I am happy about the this slow squid season ? I hope I am wrong but maybe the commercial people have been overfishing for squids over the years too....Check out this article :

Really good night last night or this morning. Fished from 1am till 3am with my buddy by ourselves in Newport. We both managed to fill half a 5 gallon bucket. Was quick to till it half way since they was all large squid (about 1' in length).

Drove by FT Adams, GI and JT on our way for bass in SoCo. Couple of squid in peoples buckets. Also no luck on bass for us.
Oh our biggest highlight of the night. Was seeing a big ball of bait under our light. In 5 minutes they were attacked by a big school of large squids. It was a amazing sight. Even saw a couple shooting water at the bait to stunt it, then pick them off.
That story just gets me upset. I and many people in this sport value this sport, when money and greed ruin this sport. I feel this type of Illegal fishing should be treated as a act of war and not as to whom owns what piece of land. Those boats should be sunk and made into man made reefs, But once again politics at its best. There are many different kinds of squid in the ocean and mother nature plays one of many roles in this sport. I am hearing that the squiding is getting better and maybe sometime this week " I hope " We will be all be getting inked and having fun at it. So lets have fun and enjoy and respect our sport. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup2.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':thumbsup2:' />
Been fishing JT last few weeks with best outing 7 squid. Tried Falmouth on the Cape got zero. One person who had been there all night had a dozen small squid. This is shaping up to be either the worst or slowest starting squid season in years.

Made out terrible, do did everyone else... Started in Jamestown, went to GI, then went to Fort Adams... Result: one squid at Jamestown, nothing at the other two places. I saw nobody catch a squid at GI, or Fort Adams, and only a few caught at JT... I don't know what's going on but I don't like it...
