Newport Ri 2013 Squid Season
The Cape sounds good to me. No fighting for a spot on the bridge and quality squid.
We ended up with about a dozen for the night. fished nebraska shoals. Fog was really thick, and the boat gremlins were having a ball, but we had fun and got back safely anyway.

At least they are here. Hopefully the numbers will keep increasing.
Greg, that must have been your boat we saw out off Green Hill last night. We wrapped it up around 11:00 when things slowed down.

Wife and I ended up with around 35 squid.
Did anyone get any at GI?

Yup, that was us. Only one other boat out there. We could see them following the jigs a few times, but they wouldn't bite. Might have been the jigs, might have been the spot, who knows.

How long were you there before we arrived?
Yeah, that may have been part of it. I forgot my gear bag and all I had we're some Brahms jigs I picked up at the risaa show.

Ill probably get an arsenal for next time. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

I may try again Friday or Saturday. I have to fix a tach issue first. Boats.
I'd yakk out there if I knew how to get to green hill :/

Park at matiunik state beach. It's right next to green hill. I've caught plenty of squid right in front of the house there.
how is the water at nebraska shoals? i usually squid in the bay area next to newport bridge. I got a 19' boat so i tend to stay closer to shore. I am not to familiar with green hill. any help be awesome thanks
you can also park at the deep hole fishing parking lot. I will be making a trip out that way when the water gets around 60 degrees. I will be out that way when seabass opens up good location. Let me know if you want to meet up there I will give you directions
You can launch from pt Judith and be there in about 15 to 20 mins. From the dock or you can launch from Charlestown breach way and be there in about 10 mins from dock

get your gear ready then, I'll give you a call when I get up there, maybe we can talk your father into coming along, maybe even Carmine might want to come.
Yeah, you really have to trust your chartplotter when you can't see either flashing light at the entrance to the harbor of refuge until you are less than 1/4 mile. And even then, they only blink every 30 seconds, so it can be a long time between sightings, and forget about making out the wall.

Radar is a huge help. And a good handheld spotlight. lol.
Here's a picture of the fog we saw on the way out. We were about 100 feet from shore. It seemed to get thicker later.

is that where u squid from?
That's the harbor on the way to the inlet. I fished in the area of nebraska shoals, not far from the red buoy. You can actually walk out onto the jetty that surrounds the hoarbor of refuge. I always see people fishing off the rocks, but don't know if they squid. Don't see why you couldn't if you had light.
Thursdays is my day off and will work for me
Going out tonight. I read through a bunch of the forums to find the best jigs. Hopefully the squid read the forums too.
they are reading the forums and thats why they are hiding to make us want them more
