Heard 3 rd hand that there are "few" squid being caught in Chatham on the Cape. From docks.

That is good news, they are in the hood. The winds are holding us back, might not get out till Friday.
Now I know you guys love those big lights and gennies but I'm a firm beliver that less is more these squid live in darkness most of the year and I see guys with lights that cut through 15ft of stained water all I'm sayin is I've already caught this years bait without any light just my 2cents

From a boat at least, it depends on the night. Some nights you have to turn off the big lights and use just background lighting. Others you need to need to look like one of those japanese squid boats with terrawatts of halogens over the the water.

I use the sky as a clue. If the moon is high and stars bright the lights are way up. Moonless and cloudy, low. But it isn't a hard rule. Sometimes you have to experiment.

But in all cases you will see some squid. If they are light shy, they will be on the edge of your field and you won't get as many, but you will get some.
went out to GI last night no squid but caught quite a few herring from 8 to 9 then they just stopped hitting .

Another week or so for squid I think .
The francis fleet posted a report from last night. They got some, but very few. I was at the marina yesterday and the winds were howling. Must have been miserable out there last nigh to boot.

Good news is they are now showing up off the beaches, at least in limited numbers.

I'm torn about going out tonight. If the winds are down it might be a good time to try. But I'd be solo so I may just wait till the end of the week when I can muster a crew. Once the catching starts, finding people to go will be easier. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

Greg if you need crew on a Sunday night, Kim and I would be happy to jump in. Actually we'd probably be happy to jump in nearly any night.

Mike, sounds like a plan! The boat is at the point judith marina in wakefield, ri. We can leave whenever is convenient, as long as we can set up before dark we will be good.

I'll pm you with my number.

Thanks!
Ahh, I read that quickly and was assuming you meant tonight. If you can make it great, give me a call, otherwise no issues. I should be getting out often.

Talked to some people on Friday. If you have Naval Station Newport access, people are catching their limits for blackfish off Pier 2. Outside the jetty in the Bay was also historically good. I've gone spear fishing for them in years past off Price's Neck and Ledge Rd. in Newport.
I'm at the JT and there is 4 boats showed up to squid fishing. I guess they followed my posting XD
We were going to head out tonight but the fog is supposed to be thick, let us know how they make out.
Water temp is 54 in Newport... Where are you squid?!?!?!?!?!
stoped at the bait shop fri night they said they were catching black fish at fort adams the black fish love the rocks . was told there were some strippers out there to but nothing of size .
what is the JT ?
